• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

And yes another BEST question

I haven't owned a bike in over 30 years. Purchased 2008 SM5 Spyder in Jan '09 and got a 1 year BEST.

Typically I buy new cars and never keep past 3 years. My question based on that is, would you have purchased just a 1 year BEST. I paid $300; I know to some that wouldn't have been a bargain. I contacted the dealer the other day and went thru the normal bargaining routine with the sales mgr.; I can pick up 2 more years; but, due to the surcharge and them only coming down $200 (after bargaining session) it leaves me with a $1000 charge, which includes the surcharge and 8% sales tax.

If you already paid $300 adding another $1000 to extend it to the full 3 years seems high unless it is for BESTPlus. We paid $1300 for BestPlus for 3 year extended, so I don't remember the cost of reg BEST. I may be wrong here but I think there is a pretty high profit margin built into selling these warranties. Check and see if there are any other dealers in the area that you could purchase the extended warranty from and see what they offer.

Go for it

Although it may seem HIGH now, (and it is that for sure), All to often if you do not pick up the Extra Warrenty the day you pick up the Bike ( I beleive there is a 30 or 60 Day period after you have the bike) you will pay a little bit more, I got hung up in this right after I bought mine, so with the some of the problems that we are working outs-- In my EYES I'm thinking its probably the BEST idea to go ahead and pick up a couple more years, from what I understand replacing one of the three computer systems in there gets EXPENSIVE..... If that has to happen down the road.

PS: Just my 2 cents worth.

If you don't plan to keep the Spyder more than three years like your cars, then you are fine. If you plan to keep it more than three years, then you should add coverage that aligns with those plans.

Deb - the dealer's cost has increased tremendously since we bought ours. For example, last year at this time, a three-year BEST (only) extension cost the dealer $547. Now, it's in the $800-900 range. That's COST. Add a margin for the dealer and...

$1000 is reasonable...BTW, I didn't think that a warranty is taxed...not sure about your state, but usually there is no tax on them...check that out.

Then, you have to tack on the surcharge of $75 per yr. What they want to charge me doesn't seem all that bad. I just got to determine if I will keep the spyder for more than 3 yrs.

Only if you do NOT buy it when you buy the bike, according to my source.

Once you own the bike for 30 or 60 days (please verify this point), there is a surcharge of 75.00 per year that you want the warranty on top of the base price...this is new as of Feb. 09...and it stinks! So, for the 5 year warranty, you have the base price of about 700.00 plus 225.00 (3x75.00) and this gets you up to about 900-1000.00 for the warranty (dealer has to make some money here and that's okay)...

The warranties are going up in price...if you don't have one yet, get it now!
