• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

An open letter to BRP

I don't know if everyone feels the same way that I do about BRP, but it seems like they feel somewhat less obligated to establish personal relationships with their clientele than other manufacturers. I am also a Victory owner, and they seem to always be asking of feedback. So I would like to start off, as an RT owner, with two serious complaints:
1. BRP clothing, specifically Can Am. Really? That's the best you can do? Follow the lead of every other manufacturers and produce some clothing we would actually want to wear! We will buy it, I promise!
2. RT gas mileage. It is abysmal. I don't know how these other people are getting 30+ mpg, but I can only assume they are driving empty bikes at 55mph. Real world riders get 25mpg at 70mph, and we need better than that!

Let's see what everyone else comes up with. I think BRP needs to engage with the customers more often.

When I bought my spyder, gas mileage was the last thing on my mind. This thing is a recreational vehicle for me. Then again, I bought the RS-S, and the mileage is between 30 and 35 mpg no matter how hard I push it. Eventually the high prices and lack of different styles will draw small aftermarket companies in and you will be able to find more of what you desire. As of right now this is still a riding demographic that is new in the market.

Just sayin'............

If you really want to engage BRP you need to go to their Facebook page. BRP does not post on our boards, they do read them but that's not engaging.

I just completed a brp survey yesterday.
The gas mileage doesn't really matter that much to me with the spyder and as for the clothing, I do not have a problem with it. I own some brp, some joe rocket and a killimanjero jacket.

  1. I feel the opposite to you.Firstly BRP are a manufacturer of vehicles who have an entire dealer network with whom you should be working with. Not the manufacturer.I bought from a good dealer in Michigan and now go a 100 miles extra to a dealer here in Florida.I have had some warranty work done and some queries which the dealer got the satifactory answers from BRP.I had Goldwings for years as well as all makes of cars and never had any dealings with The Manufacturer.BRP also seem to make some nice events one of which I attended last Sunday at Daytona and all I can say is how nice it was.
  2. The low gas mileage. It has a big front end.I am sure they would like it to get better gas mileage. My feelings are if you are worried about gas mileage don't buy a Spyder. In any event gas is the least expensive Item.Have a good look at the depreciation.
  3. Clothing.I haven't found it terrible just expensive.I have bought some pants and shirts when on sale and found them very niceAll this isJMHO.

I just received, and completed a survey this morning...
The dealers should be the gateway to BRP...

Could you imagine what would happen if BRP responded in an open forum to a question, a concern, a complaint?? :yikes:

Clothing - *meh* Are they charging extra for their logo like a well known Vtwin company?
Mileage - 30mpg on my RS is better than my cars.

I really think that they should go with a larger engine, especially for the RT. Maybe a V4 engine that is about 1200cc. Although, I don't think it would give you better mpg. That is a lot of front end to push through the air.

Mpgs... :banghead: :bdh:
Sorry... iI feel better now! :D

:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

I do hear you on the MPG thing. I was always under the impression that motorcycles got phenomenal gas mileage and put the Spyder into that category. I've met some MC riders that were amazed that it does so poorly and others that considered the Spyder mileage to be very good (riding these big monster bikes, don't know the models). I know they are like a "brick" going through the wind compared to a 2 wheeler.

I agree on the clothing thing. We bought our Speed&Strength jackets on sale thru MC Superstore for pennies compared to the BRP stuff. Fully armored, waterproof and match the bikes as well.

Let's see..!!

Mileage..so many variables but have to agree if you buy a spyder for better gas mileage you goofed. Now if you bought it for gas and fun it beats the car, van, truck, or anything else. Clothing, so many choices and in the end you don't have to buy theirs...jmo...I won't go into communication ask my wife..!!:roflblack::shemademe_smilie:

The only manufacturer that's ever called me on the phone is BRP, and that was to answer a question I asked before I even bought a Spyder. I haven't ridden a Victory but after a lot of years riding BMW's, Yamahas, Hondas and other brands, BRP has been more concerned about my problems than all the rest put together, MUCH more concerned.

As far as riding gear is concerned, BRP's gear looks good and appears to be as well made as most everything else. I buy most of my gear when I find it at good prices on closeout deals and I haven't found any BRP gear at those prices. When I do, I'm sure I'll buy some.

Gas mileage is what it is. I have a BMW F650CS that got 60 - 70 MPG until I put a bigger windshield on it. Now it gets 50 - 55 MPG. What do you think another front wheel and a huge fairing would do to its mileage. You have to pay the price for the comfort that comes from the best fairing I've ever ridden behind as well as the safety and stability that the extra wheel provides.

Have to agree with Lamont on this. I and others have had phone calls from BRP and mail surveys. I've answered everyone. In fact, that's how we got the B.E.S.T. warranty on our 2010 RTS. They do listen. Contact them directly and respond to their surveys and you may be the one chosen to test the next level of Spyder to come along. Remember to be courtious to the person your talking to as well.

I agree with most of the posts above. Talk to your dealer for these complaints. But MPG isn't important for me as I am on my 2nd spyder (3rd soon) for the enjoyment of riding and don't waste my time worrying about gas.

As for the clothing like most other manufactures except maybe harley....They have greatly improved their clothing line over the past 6 years but the issue is not a lot of dealers stock very much. I have been to over 25 different Can-am dealers in the country and you will find some that stock quite a bit. Now for pricing of the clothing they are actually cheap compared to harley clothing.

I'm also not partial to the Can-Am clothing and accessory selection. And i wish my RTS got better mileage. But . . . so what? :dontknow:

There's lots of unofficial clothes and accessories out there. I'd rather BRP concentrate on creating great rydes, and only later think of licensing their brand for all the paraphenalia for wanna-be ryders.

And I have too much fun to worry about the mileage relative to other machines.

A public forum is a GREAT place for folks to exchange ideas, plan events, joke a little (;)), and even look for some sympathy when things turn to mush.
if they so choose; BRP can actually get more done behind the scenes.
Case in point...
After my... :opps:incident:opps: in October, 2011; I wasn't happy about the timeframe for the repair completions... And I was pretty vocal about it.
Carlo called me up and offered his assistance.
Needless to say; I was shocked that a Company would do that... and VERY happy too!
