• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

AMBIENT TEMP. SENSOR

kep-up

New member
The ambient temp. display consistently indicates a temp 5deg F higher than actual temp. I have located the sensor on the Spyder, but haven't located it in my shop manual parts list.

I am thinking to replace the sensor. Does anyone know the OEM part number? Or does anyone know of an aftermarket replacement?

I don't think replacing it will make much difference!! Haven't seen a Spyder temp indicator that doesn't read high yet. I reckon the reason they all read higher than 'ambient' is where the sensors are placed on the byke, so replacing yours will likely still give you the same result, just cost you a bit of time, effort, & $$!! ;)

Save your money, and try this technique...
If you're hot; take something off...
If you're cold; put something on!
That sensor isn't there to provide us with information, as much as it's there to provide the computers with information... ignore it! :D

If the information isn't for operator use, I wish BRP would not have made it available for me to see. There was one on my ST1300 that was spot on. It, too, was placed near the front of the fairing, but much closer to the radiator than the one on the Spyder. I think BRP should volunteer to make this right........

BRP, pm me and I'll tell you where to send the replacement part.

Here's the thing..!!

where it is located it measures the air intake temperature for the ecm (one of the computing moduels). Being that low and close to the warmer asphalt it is always different. Best is to just get a peel and stick temp guage and stick it somewhere visable...

I agree the sensors on both of ours the RT and the ST are off by right at 5 and 6 degrees respectively. It has nothing to do with location.
They read off even after sitting all night in a temperature controlled environment. The sensors being used just are not very accurately calibrated.

I wish you luck at getting them corrected, I just comp the temp in my mind LOL figured I had bigger grips than this one to try to resolve.

It's the pressure and temperature sensor. The part # 707000564 and cost is about $155.00 + shipping. The sensor works with the engine computer modules to calculate fuel mixture. It's located on right lower side of trunk. It dose not show a true ambient temperature. That's how mine works on my 2011 RS-S SE5, this may vary from model and year. That's IMHO

For that price, my 2011 RS-S SE5 can display whatever temperature it wishes on the dash! :)
