• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

AMA American Motorcyclist Ass.

It was suggested to me that I join the AMA. I have good insurance coverage but was wondering if any of you have found it a benefit to be a member of the AMA. The cost is not an issue but if i'm going to waste money I would just as soon it was on farkles and beer. :2thumbs:

AMA

Might want to google AMA CEO salary and see where your $$$'s are going. Seems to be a lot of internal strife currently:yikes:

If you have automatic renewal you get emergency road service on all vehicles in your household. Mine paid for itself with my granddaughter's car last year (she lives with us).
You also get discoynts and the magazine. They are strong proponents of rider's rights, fight against higher ethanol standards, sponsor many events nationwide, sponsor the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum and many areas have local chapters.
I think they are a great organization.

you are looking at 2011 information, I believe (that is what was on Google). $300K is not a lot for a national non-profit.

AMA member here

Discounts on insurance is more than annual fee. They fight for biker rights and always find good rides in magazine articles.

No organization is perfect

I still feel they are worth joining. Some very good benefits as mentioned and a tremendous lobbying effort for us.

Thx all for info. Will probably join before before great adventure of 2016 to Charleston, SC. Hope to do Devil's Whip, Tail of the Dragon and Cherohala Skyway while in area. :D

Soooo many awesome sights

On your way to Charleston, SC...couple months should just about give you enough time to hit the highlights!!! And with the new 1330...wahoo..:yes: Consider adding the Rattler and Dale's Motorcycle Museum, Wheels of Time...

It may be slightly less offensive to their members to refer to them as the "American Motorcyclist Assoc." rather than "American Motorcyclist Ass." Just sayin' :D

18 year member. Bottom line these are the only people willing to take on the land closure people, the NHTSB,insurance people, state law maker city law makers, gated communities all of which are trying to limit your use of motorcycles on public lands/highways. Do they always win,no of course not. What is important is they are doing this on a daily basis nationwide. On top of that they promote things like the ISDT, road races, flat track, motocross, trials,Grand Tours and all kinds of discounts at different places, motels, clothing, rental cars. Warm and Safe will sell to you at 18% off. Lots of others. Pit entry at a lot of races. Daytona started as an AMA race. Sturges started as an AMA race. Laudon, Laconia, etc etc. So my feeling is if you ride, join, you will find out a lot about whats going on behind the scenes in the motorcycle world with regard to your freedom to ride.

I agree with the positive comments about the AMA. They are constantly fighting for Motorcyclists rights whether it is on road or off road. Biggest thing is the fight against ethanol!!!!!
Discounts and Road Service are a bonus!!!!!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Exactly

Join. You are a motorcycle rider. They fight stupid laws, and represent us. I've been a member for over 20 years.

I just received my 40 year member pin from National,
I have been an active member for 40 years and still wonder how they

Go to the AMA website or call 1-800 AMA-JOIN for all the details.
there is much more to AMA than a fancy AMA sticker and patch.
You get many discounts on parts, hotels, rental cars, trip planning,
insurance, towing, they will go to bat for you for all kids of legal stuff
the crap being put in the gas today, if your club is a member club you can
get insurance to cover any liabilities that may occur the list is endless... GO CHECK IT OUT

I've been a member of AMA for several years and am very happy to be a member. The benefits are good, and I enjoy reading the magazine that comes in the mail every month.

I joined AMA at the suggestion of a friend years ago. I never needed the Roadside Assistance until last Friday when I broke down on the AZ 101 Northbound at the University Drive Exit at 1:30 in the afternoon (bikes thermostat said it was 97 degrees in the shade).

I called AMA and they dispatched a flatbed. The roadside allows for 35 miles to your home or a dealership. My Allstate car policy allows for 15 miles. That more than paid for the membership. By-the-way, it was 32 miles to Ride Now Sports. My '08 SM5 Spyder will be released from the Master Mechanic next Wednesday! Did I mention it's all covered under the warranty I bought with it! Again, good money spent.:2thumbs:

Hi Spokane, I am an AMA member and enjoy the comfort of knowing someone is fighting fur us. I also carry AAA that covers all of my vehicles so should be good to go and know that no matter what, I'm covered.

life member AMA

Am a life member of the AMA. Worth every penny of your dues to make sure the Gov't doesn't intrude to far on your riding privilages. The AMA is your best motorcycling watchdog for local thru federal junk legislation that directly effects motorcycling. Plus there are other discounted and membership benefits, and a great monthly magazine. If you are a biker and not a member of the AMA, then you are not doing your share to keep us on the road and safe. JMHO GUZZI
