• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. anyone out there have/having/had an issue with your alternator on your F3....?
my 2015 with 22,000 miles, is in for an alternatorectomy right now, and i was wondering if i'm alone with this.... not that it would give me comfort if there are many out there with this same problem.... just asking, that's all...

Bummer...

Can't say for sure but I have not seen this problem as yet. Never saw many stators go out for that matter. What is the problem ?? just not charging, burned up ?? or something else.. :gaah:

You are the first that I can recall that has reported an alternator problem. Like Chupaca I am interested in more details, if you have them.

NO JUICE

NO JUICE Chu'ee.....
PLUGS are firing off the battery..... stop for lunch, and she cranks really slow, then fires... home, put it on the Battery Tender, next day same issue... took her into dealer, they put in a new battery (of course)... and $140 later, same issue... she's now resting easy waiting for her operation...
hopefully i get her back in top shape next week, because i'm leaving for Nova Scotia with a bunch of other ole-fartz....

also..... the front sprockets (tranny end) stripped out.... i've heard about a number of these... does any1 know if BRP has a Quality Control System to monitor these issues....???
b4 my retirement from GE Aircraft Engines, when a part or component failed on an jet engine, we captured that component and analyized the living :cus: out of it to make certain that condition would NEVER raise it's ugly head again....

Bad dealer, you can check battery to see if it is holding a charge before you charge a customer 140.00

Dealer could have save you some time by finding out what the real issue is. Are they now saying its the alternator or is that your guess???

i spoke with the GM, and he wasn't happy with the 1st diagnosis.... he agreed with me, and ordered a new alternator... hopefully the operation will take place on Tuesday... keep your fingers X'd for me.... thx...

Dan,
 Yours is the first that I recall hearing about...
Chalk it up to the "one in a million" thing, and the best of luck with a quick cure for it!

Battery

Dan mentioned that the front sprocket stripped out. That's not the current problem at this time. Just the battery/alternator. His front sprocket stripped somewhere around 15,000 -17,000 miles. I have heard of two other F3's doing this around the same mileage. Anyone else having a problem with a stripped sprocket on their F3?

YUP, DATZ IT....

it was the alternator....
the GM at my dealer took on this issue personally, which i can't thank him enough for his concern...
they ordered a new alternator, and performed an R&R on my F3... after which, he tested my old alternator... spinning it and putting a load on it - it failed...
this is not to say that this is/will be a common issue, but if when you start your machine, especially after a ride, and you get a FLAT-SPOT when it starts up, be prepared to have a dead battery soon, and a trip to your dealers for an ALTERNATORECTOMY.....

off to Nova Scotia now... b'bye...

NONE

Curious, with all the "stuff", I was expecting a simple alternator out or charging system failure indicator on the display.

Very odd if there is not one

THERE WAS NONE..... DASH NEVER LIT UP TO INDICATE A PROBLEM....
TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THE ALTERNATOR WAS PUTTING OUT <11V WHEN HE TESTED IT.... A GOOD ALTERNATOR SHOULD BE PUTTING OUT JUST OVER >13V....
SEEMS TO BE OK NOW.... LET'S KEEP OUR FINGERS X'd.....

On the BRIGHT side: They're on it, and the parts are coming!
I think that they should pull one off of a showroom model, and get you back out on the road quicker!

Just wonder about warranty? Didn't F3 come with 2 years.

So than the dealer payed the $140.00 because under warranty?

Volt meter

This is a good thing to fit so when you first turn the key on you get a volt reading before you start the motor.
You wire the meter into the plug that is supplied for the GPS the plug that is under the riders seat on the right hand side behind the small panel. The 2 pin water proof plugs are on Ebay cheap as.

Read the Warranty

On page 172 of your owners manual. Read section 3 Exclusions. Battery is excluded as a wear and tear item. If you read the warranty for your car I would guess it says the same thing.
