Alternate route thru Colorado?

We will be heading back to Fort worth from Black Hawk in the 2nd week of June. Can anyone recommend a "better" from Black Hawk to Trinidad than I-25? Running south down the Interstate is not really our idea of an enjoyable ride. Quicker, yes, but time really isn't a factor.

Hey! You might consider going US285 South to US160 over. Its a nice ride and may add 2hrs to the trip compared to Interstate. Hope this helps

285 is mostly pretty nice after you get past the connection to 470. I've ridden from there to Salida. Some truck traffic but OK.

Coming down from Salida to Alamosa I haven't done.

Once on 160, if you have time you might take the turn to LaVeta on CO 12, which will take you the back way to Trinidad.

Actually, 25 isn't bad once you get south of Denver, at least until you get to Pueblo, where 25 deteriorates to an old cracked ugly road through town. Then it opens up again.

You'd add at least 2 hours this way -- more like 3 if you take CO 12. Don't know if time is of the essence or not..

I currrently line in Colorado Springs and those routes that the others gave you are good. I cant remember the Hwy roads, right now I am in the dessert of Oman and all this sun and sand has gotten to my brain. Once you get into Co Springs, Head out towards Limon into Kansas and then straight down into oklahoma and into Texas(go cowboys). These are mainly 2 lane roads...Pretty Peacfull. I may also suggest using the "avoid main roads" function on the GPS. It should keep you off main HWY. If you need it there is a can-am dealership in the springs(closed on Sun and Mon)..Happy Sprdrn!

If I don't head south thru the mountains as mentioned above, then this looks like a great way to go. We would head to Limon thru Denver and just ride 287 south all the way home. Thanks for the info!

Dealer in CO Springs folded a while ago. Closest is Denver now.
