• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Hi All, have an RT 2014 Ltd and live in México. Knowing how curious people are trying to sit on the Y that was wondering if any one of you have installed an alarm and mainly looking the type that if someones sits o tries to an alarm or beep will sound, I guess would be a proximity alarm like many convetible cars have. Any suggestios and/or vendors will greatly appreciated as well as any installation suggestions. Thanks and best regards, Eddy :spyder2:

Me, too! I thought of one from Amazon that fits on a doorknob. Under the bike cover, they wouldn't know that it was a cheapy and would be loud enough to wake me in a motel room. I sleep very lightly out on the road. They sell for about $25. Make sure you get the one that does vibration and not wedge the door.

Just slightly better than nothing....and if you get a better one this can be used to a motel or cabin....

Here's what I have for an alarm....

I installed a SPY Motorcycle alarm and works fine. I only use it in certain situation when deemed necessary.

I bought mine (March 2014) when they had it for sale at $89.99...check Ebay with maybe other suppliers of the same alarm...make sure it has the microwave sensor.

I don't use the auto start of shut down. I just use it for a deterrent for people to NOT mess with my Spyder or sit on it. The microwave sensor was placed under the seat so if they are on it there or near that area, it will sense it and the alarm will go off. It also has a shock or motion sensor.

I've used it a few times.

Pro's:
It works for me for what I use it for.
It is cost effective.
It has two remotes that lets you know that something is going on if it alarms. The remotes allow to to arm and disarm it.
It does connect into your wiring fairly easily if you have your wiring diagram. It flashes your turn signals and sounds a loud alarm when it goes off.

Con's:
It "churps" three times to let you know to set it every time you shut your Spyder off -- this got annoying to me ....so I installed a rocker switch (located under my seat) to turn the power off to the alarm when I don't use it...super easy fix....The alarm should have had that option initially.
The documentation is terrible.
Understanding the remote function and how to set them can take awhile with the poor documentation.
Harleys or loud vehicle tend to set-off the alarm due to the vibration of the sound....I think I need to set it a little less sensitive (just need to figure out how to do that with those :cus: instructions!).

Hope this helps...there are many to choose from.

BTW...alarm works! I had my Spyder parked outside with the travel cover on and the alarm set for overnight parking. I got an alarm at 5am and was notified with my remote in the bedroom. I went immediately out to see what was going on....I saw a cat running away. Checked it later that morning when taking the travel cover off, sure enough...there were cat paw prints on the seat -- the motion sensor caught it! Thankfully, no claw marks when the cat was scared out of its mind when the alarm went off -- I'm sure the cat jumped straight up and then out!:roflblack:

Same here. Spy Motorcycle alarm. Make sure the one you get has the microwave part as some has that as optional!

Hi Bob, I took your advice and placed a small rocker switch under the seat to shut power off to the alarm when not using it. Now I don't have it "churping" at me when I'm not using the alarm feature! Thanks for that suggestion! Jim

BTW: Have you tuned your vibration sensor down a bit so it does NOT go off with loud noises (HD's straight pipes)???

I have yet to do that because the 3 chirps it gives after turning the key off does not bother me. But this is on my list to do at some point.

Nice switch! I think I will use that same one :)

Purchased it from Radio Shack around $4. I liked the low profile.

Yes I had to mess with that a bit to get it right. Seemed odd I will admit. Some vibrations would set it off right away and other "bumps" would not set it off at all. I think there is both a motion and a vibration sensor but only one adjustment for both.

Thanks Bob. Here's the info on the rocker switch I used: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062523

The motion sensor you can tune with a screwdriver on the microwave unit itself. The vibration sensor is tuned using the remote -- which I have not figured out yet due to the :cus: instructions.....The vibration sensitivity is on page 6 of the manual, subsection 1.22....good luck! Jim

I can't offer much advise on alarms but I did want to chime and give you another cheap security option that we use on some of our "mobile" valuables.
http://www.thetrackr.com/

We own several and have them hidden on our bicycles just in case. They are not full proof since it's based on a crowdsource type application but I tested within a 2 mile radius and found that it works well in our area so there are others using the GPS app.

The Spy 5000m and the Scorpio are pretty much the same system. They have the same capabilities and specs. In fact they wire up pretty much the same.
Difference was when I was shopping for an alarm, Spy 5000m was $89 (with microwave sensor) and the Scorpio was $180.
