• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Alarm for RT

I teach at a local community college and I have a special spot away from student parking. My concern stems from the fact that I have a long fairly deep scratch on the left truck. It almost looks like a key, and interestingly enough it happened right after I had "words" with my of my students, though I can not prove it.

I would like to have a simple alarm with a proximity sensor to at least make someone aware that they should back off-not that they definitely will.

I have a Scorpio that would be great but my dealer has advised me not to "mess around" with any of the electronics, including an add on due to the way the electronics are tied together on the RT.

Does anyone have any experience with an alarm system for the RT?

I installed an "Ultra-Compact Cycle Alarm" in my Spyder RT the day I purchased the vehicle. A simple two wire hook up to the battery is all that is required. I did not install the tilt sensor for obvious reasons. It does the job with a warn away function that beeps if the bike is touched and a loud alarm if the bike is mounted. The web site says it all. http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/d...&sblid_name=Gorilla_Ultra_Compact_Cycle_Alarm

It is very sensitive to shocks and loud noises so you have to play with the settings a bit to desensitize it while in high traffic areas. I mounted the unit beneath the seat, directly above the battery.

Hope this helps.

So what's wrong with the one that comes with it or is this new for the 2011 models?

Instrumentation Multi-function dot-matrix/dual analog gauge: digital speedometer,
tachometer, odometer, trip & hour meters, gear position,
temperature, engine lights, electronic fuel gauge, clock
Anti-theft system D.E.S.S. (Digitally Encoded Security System)
Lighting 2 halogen headlamps (60W) with tail light/brake light
Touring windshield Push-button electric height adjustment
Wind deflectors

Rider Steve,
just my guess, but that's probably just the fancy description of the coded ignition keys.

This is a interesting subject though. I've had some hesitation when staying in hotels about leaving the spyder on the lot. I tend to stay in motels where I can park right outside the room.

Also, I've had a few people sit on it at work. Haven't caught them doing it, lucky for them ) Would love to put a alarm on it just to scare the heck out of'em.

I would think you could hook up any stand-alone alarm system, by wiring it to a fused circit, directly from the battery.

Great just what I need! I love going to a dealer and paying $250.00 for a copy of my key. :sour:

I sent a message to Scorpio Alarms today. Got a response back within 1 hour. They have been working on a system that will be plug and play for the rt, just like thier rs ones are. No date of release yet.

Hello Dave,

We are still working on the RTS harness. We have gotten our hands on the RTS a few times and we are still trying to locate the connectors. We are hoping to have a connector in the near future.

Let me know if there is anything else at all we can do for you sir

Scorpio Alarm

My dealer installed the SR-i900 with the perimeter sensor and the remote ignition disable for me at the 600 mile service. I only use the system when I need too but it works great. They used the universal wiring harness because, as stated above, I also checked to see if the OEM one was ready. It is not.

Good find!

Thanks Dave, Keep us posted.:chat: :ani29:

I own the Scorpio

I own the scorpio from another bike. I imagine I could hook it up without the light flashers and it would function just as the gorilla alarm does

I may try that, as soon as I get the RT back. They are waiting for the replacement gas gauge. To my big surprise it was on back order. It shipped from BRP today.

Once again must ask, is anything that BRP sells ever in stock?

I think a cover helps as well. As I found on a different thread, the cover off my Honda ST1100 fits just fine, except for covering the wheels. I used it down in the smokies last week.

Scorpio SR I800

I have the Scorpio SR I800 RFID Security System and it works very well with no problems regarding the Spyder electrical system & was dealer approved as a good system. Scorpio did not have a "Plug-n-Play" harness so it was "Old School" installation. I love the RFID feature!

I bought a Talon 3300p alarm with prox sensor from a member on here. Works great. Fully hooked up with tilt, proximity, flash and kill function. Very easy to do because Talon provides a Spyder pig tail so everything is plug and play (deosn't need to splice a single wire). Finding a satisfactory mounting spot and routing the warning LED to the front took the longest time. I am very happy with the proximity sensor and how it works. Just be sure not to park long term with the alarm on because it can drain your battery over time.
