I've never been a fan of K&N filters. A number of things I've worked on with them have had dirt down stream from the filter. They promise more air flow and to do that the filter has to have bigger holes in the filter media. My FJR had a ton of crap in the airbox after 10k with K&N and going back to factory filters the air box is clean after 100k. I think if the engine needed more air flow the engineers would design a filter to match the need. YMMV
As the owner of an auto parts store for many years, and having toured the wix filter plant, I can say that the above info is correct. More air flow = bigger micron filter media. Stick with the factory filter. My opinion anywayI've never been a fan of K&N filters. A number of things I've worked on with them have had dirt down stream from the filter. K&N in my opinion is simply a re-useable filter if properly cleaned and re-oiled. Saves money over a long period of time. I've used them on several vehicles w/o any issues. Had my last one on a Jeep Grand Cherokee and sold it with 370,000 miles. It ran a K&N all it's life and was running great when I sold it. It all comes down to maintenance and service. What most people know is that K&N air filters don't preform at RPM's where most of us operate our vehicles on a daily basis. Unless you own a 998, then you may see performance results. (Read the K&N info, it's in there.)
I've been running one for 3 years, but now you have me worried. Back to the factory filter for me. Thanks for the update.
I ran one trail ride in AZ with a K & N air filter on my ATV. Checked it after the ride and found dust in the throttle body. Never again and will not use in my Spyder with all the chances for fine dust in this part of the country, in addition to occasional dust storms.
Amazing how different people doing the same thing with the same product can have completely different experiences. Makes you wonder why.
Can you imagine if there was only one oil or one tire manufacture how dull this site would be?
