• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Air filter

To get greater performance, it's the 'suck' (air intake) 'bang' (air / fuel mixture) 'blow' (exhaust) factor. All of the above have to be in balance. To do one without balancing out the others is not good for the engine.

Wow, I think I see my Spyder standing on end.

A free flow air cleaner and/or a free flow exhaust will give you noise, Without the byproduct of,
Horsepower. :roflblack:

I,ll say noise- The other day I had the air box completely OFF to install the new Iridiums (So I don,.t have to Take the box off for a Long time:roflblack:)
I REVED the Engine with the airbox OFF AND almost dropped a load in my pants!!!!:hun: Sounds like a Mini Dragster- :yikes:

Balancing the equation would require more air , more fuel . and the ability to get rid of that exhaust . Filter/some kind of fuel controller and a exhaust . Now im sure you can P/P and bore and new pistons etc but thats going WAYYYY beyond just bolt ons and definately for another conversation im sure ....

I have the Dual TBR and K&N and it works perfectly. No backfiring or anything. Had the Juice Box and took it off. Gave me nothing but problems. Runs like a champ with just those two. AND, HDXBONES, and whoever else has something to say about using the k&n, I use it in place of stock due to oil in airbox. Better than the stock. Didnt buy it for "performance gains"

just to clarify things

i didn't start this thread....and i didn't get up on a soap box and claim that everyone should go out and get a free flow air cleaner.....however, someone else decided to bad mouth people who did and made the claim that those people were ruining their engines.. and that's just plain BS furthermore if i was to go on a rant someone on this forum wouldn't be able to sit for at least a week or so...my last post here was totaly "tongue in cheek "....I hope you know what that means.......WITH MUCH AFFECTION.....:bdh:MICHAEL

This is an open forum and its good that all sides of the coin are talked about. Each persons Spyder is their own and what works for one, may not work for another.

Everyone can take into consideration what others have posted, but in the end, its up to the ryder to decide what is best for them.

It's o.k. to agree to disagree...

Kumbyay with S'more's on top?

Use of Capital letters

Some of the people on this thread apparently don't know the difference between Capital letters....lower case letters....and the fact that the size of the print doesn't change either of them.....they also aren't able to count very well......With even more affection.....Mike.....:dontknow: and I'm done with this HAPPY ST PATTY'S DAY ALL

So much wealth of information on this site

:bowdown:Thanks to ALL of you that choose to share with ALL of us

Yazz you got me thinking...

.... I seen your post "Oxygen is very explosive, fuel is a coolant." :hun: I don't want to get into a pissin' contest about this, Oxygen is explosive??? I always thought oxygen SUPPORTS combustion, and in it's natural state is very stable. And gasoline evaporates very fast thus cooling but not a coolant. I wouldn't put grease in oxygen, hence the reason pilots using o2 masks have to keep them clean and free of skin oils.

:agree: Oxygen is a Catalyst.

I stand corrected. Should have gotten my facts together more. Its good Y'all are keeping me honest.

Found an article that might help explain why a lean fuel/ air ratio isn't good for an engine.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air–fuel_ratio_meter

Lean mixtures improve the fuel economy but also cause sharp rises in the amount of nitrogen oxides (NOX). If the mixture becomes too lean, the engine may fail to ignite, causing misfire and a large increase in unburned hydrocarbon (HC) emissions. Lean mixtures burn hotter and may cause rough idle, hard starting and stalling, and can even damage the catalytic converter, or burn valves in the engine. The risk of spark knock/engine knocking (detonation) is also increased when the engine is under load.

Google is my friend...

Oxygen is one of those elements that has been changed into many different states by man, some of them scary. Ironic that the oxygen generators in aircraft have also been it's demise. I don't miss servicing LOX or LN on aircraft either, they have 400:1 and 800:1 expansion ratio(I think it was)...now that's explosive ignition and/or physically.

:agree: Had to service o2 on biz jets. Respect for pressurized oxygen was pounded into me. Probably why I think of it as volatile.

Thanks for bringing up LOX and LN. Glad you don't have to service them anymore...

Before you "Git Rid of the Sound Absorbing" Air Box and put a fancy looking arrestor on there-
Take off the air box completely and warm the engine and then hit the throttle several times and ask yourself if your doing your
Sense of "Hearing" a favor or not to listen to that every MILE you ride?:yikes:

Then "Don,t Worry, Be Happy?"

I'm going to be replacing the airbox myself with Kewlmetal's kit. If it does turn out that the engine sound is just too loud, I will just line the inside of the plastics with a layer of foam to counter it.

Yeah, the same filter material on a filter 2 to 3 the size of the one we have would be better, would be pretty neat if someone made a filter the size of the airbox lid and swap that with the lid. Most of those high flow filters do require treatment or attention for proper operation.

Wouldn't the more porous air flow filter also be letting more contaminents thru as well?
