after market windshield

I know others have changed their windshields on their spyders. so i have a question....i am 6'2 and my windshield seems fine going down the road...there is just enough lift at speed to keep pressure off my wrists, but during crosswinds, it feels like its gonna blow me off the bike....do the aftermarket adjustable windshields help with crosswinds at all?

With the CHAD I didn't notice anything that severe, but crosswind and wind off vehicles (especially trucks) was certainly noticeable. The windshield on the Spyder sits out there a long way, and is not deeply curved. As it gets larger, this problem magnifies. No good place to hide under certain conditions. It is not like a sport touring bike where you can duck behind the shield in a crosswind. On the other hand, you don't have to ride it at a 45 degree angle when the wind blows.

Hey BRPJunkie, does the Givi help with wind noise? I am 5'7" and with the stock shield the wind blows right at shoulder level on the freeway (city ryding is not an issue) even lifts my helmet from time to time. The worst thing is wind noise.

I am hesitating between a Givi and Cal-Sci. Your thoughts?

The wind noise was terrible with the Calsci. The only shield I found that works for noise is the F1 slider.

To get a really quiet ride, your windshield has to get all the wind totally over your helmet. At 6'4" tall with my F1 slider, the wind only gets to the very top of the helmet so I still get some wind noise but the ride is smooth (no head buffeting). The only windshield I had on my Spyder that was completely quiet at 80 + MPH was the F1 Evolution II. It was an extremely tall shield and it was getting the wind about 6 inches over my head. My problem with the original F1, the EVO III and the BRP Touring windshield was that it focused most of the wind at my upper chest or shoulder level and made the wind noise unbearable. Worse than riding with the stock windshield.

This is what I am experiencing right now, but with windshield prices I do not want to buy 3 before I find "the one". If I was not concerned about the looks, I'd probably get the toenail!

I've found the CalSci to work quite well. Perhaps you didn't get the largest CalSci, or are just too tall - .

I'm 5'9" and the CalSci XL works great. I don't want all the wind gone - isn't the idea of riding to have the open air experience?

I've noticed crosswinds, but usually only on highways - which I rarely ride on - I loves me the backroads!

I got an F1 slider last week. I haven't had enough time behind it to really know if I like it. The weather here has been terrible. The few times I have been riding. The wind was really pushing me around. I didn't notice that with the BRP touring windshield. Could be the cross winds. I usually wear a thick leather jacket even a 72 degrees. I'm comfortable as long as the vents are open on the jacket. After putting on the new windshield. I had to stop and take it off.

I am 5' 10", have the 1" BRP riser and wear a full face helmet. I find the Givi is a big improvement over the BRP tour. It reduces both wind noise and lift under helmet. We use the Chatterbox intercom and the Givi has made it easier to talk. At $134 Givi is about $50 cheaper than CalSci, but Givi comes in just one size, 22.5' tall. CalSci ofers different heights which allows for more personal preference in fit, provided you can pick the right one. I think most replies will agree that the best way to get rid of more wind is to go taller. Givi is not perfect and like all screens is a function of your height, your risers, your helmet and where and how you ride. Most of my riding is non-freeway so I am willing to put up with some wind on the freeway as a trade off for looks. I am very happy with the Givi compromise between looks and function. I just can't get used to the looks of some of the big screens. PS: Both Givi and CalSci need clutch lever adjustment to avoid contact.

A short 35 mile each way trip on the Interstate last week convinced me that the CHAD will be a blessing for trips. Much less fatiguing. I did find that I had to watch my speed closely, too. No pulling at my limbs and helmet to tip me off that I was going too fast.
