• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Are the after market trailer hitches like the ones on E bay as good as the OEM? They are much more inexpensive. Do you think my dealer, Can Am of Winston Salem would install it? If so how much do you think it would cost? Also would the dealer be able to wire the Spyder with a flat four pin connector? I have a Piggy Back trailer. I am planning on calling the service manager on Tuesday.

You will have warranty issues if you install an after market hitch on a RT.
 
:agree: The BRP hitch doesn't void the warranty...
As to whether or not your dealer would install it; your answer is only a phone call away... ;)

He may give you some guff about using an after market hitch because they use the axle to hold the brackets in place and not a bolt through the axle like the BRP hitch. You probably will get charged for a belt tension and alignment procedure since the rear wheel has to be loosened.

You will need to buy the trailer adapter harness and isolator if you are going to use an after market hitch. He can either cut the OEM square connector off and splice in a flat four, or probably better, make a short adapter cable to go from the square four to a flat four.

If you get some push back from the dealer your best bet is to go there. Talk to the parts guy and have him download the installation instruction sheet for the BRP hitch. On that sheet will be the part numbers for the Y harness and adapter, or isolator, that you need. He can order those parts by themselves. The only question is how cooperative he is. My local parts guy did that for me. I bought just the Y harness and a separate Goldwing trailer isolator and wired up my own 6 wire trailer connection.

I'm going to say that for a DIYer the after market hitch and separate harness purchase will save money. If you are planning for the dealer to do it all for you you may be almost as well off money wise to buy the BRP hitch, since the BRP hitch comes with all the parts and pieces, and will be quicker for the dealer to install.
 
Bassman: YES, Winston-Salem will install the aftermarket hitch. I just had them install the brackets only on mine and I later attached the hitch to the brackets. One note on the aftermarket: it was about 1/4 inch too narrow and it took a bit of finagling to get the four bolts thru to pull the brackets tight to the hitch bar. Once put togather it appears extremely strong...the bar itself it solid steel and quite heavy. The BRP bar is, I believe, not a solid bar. I also had a Ronbar installed and the total cost for both was $107. Heres what I use the hitch for:

Btw, Winston will also install aftermarket tires when you get ready. You can even have the tires shipped to them if you let Kevin, the SVC Mngr know ahead of time.
