There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Advice on servicing

Folks, I will wind up having only about 1700 miles on my Rt-S before she goes in for hibernation. Just curious if I should have the 3000 mile service done before putting it up for the winter, get it done first thing in the spring before the season, or just wait until 3k? I don't really like the idea of letting it sit overwinter with the same old oil sitting in it. Anyway, any advice welcomed......

When in doubt, change it out. IMO--it should be all right sitting over the winter and then have it done at the 3,000 mile interval as recommended.

Depends on your time. Have spare now get done then when spring hits :2thumbs::doorag: no wait just ride. Or wait till spring your wound up tight wanting to ride & get stuck waiting on dealer doing a dozen other bikes to squeeze you in:banghead::hun:. & hoping no tech is sick or there is any other problem in way. :cus: Not my cup of tea personally. Oil will sit fine for a season. Gas not so much. & ease any worrys by parking over news paper. Can spot any unsightly drips after a service.

Choices choices..!!

You should be fine and when spring has sprung you still have 1,300 miles to service. Should take you a weekend or two to rack them up. Also plenty time to set up an appointment for that first service...jmo..

I personally don't believe in letting the old oil, albeit with only 1,700 miles on it, sit in a laid up vehicle. I have no scientific evidence to support my position.

If it was my bike; I'd wait until I had the 3,000 mile on it, before having it serviced...
I don't honestly know if the "Old Wisdoms" about storing a toy with the old oil in it, are still true... :dontknow:

I have always left the old oil in over the winter. 28 years of riding and never an engine failure. When I pull it out I start it up to get the engine and oil warm and change it first thing in the spring. That is what I am doing with the Spyder this year as well.

Oil with (only) 1700 miles on it is hardly "old". If it was me I'd put her to bed with the oil as is and replace next season at the 3000 mile mark.

I notice its a 2014...

Your call, but if I bought it in 2014 and put some miles on last year and this year.. I'd change the oil. The humidity and colder running mileage from short trips would have me wandering how the OEM stock oil was holding up. If a holdover model that was sitting and you just rode it this year I might wait to Spring. Your call.

Just called a dealer in town & asked about bringing mine in for first service & was told it would cost about $300, am i getting jerked or is this the price????

Sadly, that is a ball park price for an oil change/filter and check over at most dealers.

The kit containing the oil and filters runs about $80...
The rest is labor; it seems on the high side of reasonable... but in the ballpark.

I was wondering about the timing of servicing a 2014 RTL. I know it is due at 9300 miles but is that at 9300 miles or 9300 after the 4000 initial service? Thanks.
