• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Advice for purchasing a pre-owned Spyder

All - I am a brand new member to the forum and I anticipate purchasing my first Spyder on Saturday (June 8th). I am anticipating purchasing a 2010 RT from a private seller and I was wondering if there is anything specific I should be looking for when evaluating the trike (aside from the usual stuff like condition, tires, cosmetic issues, etc.)? This will be my first motorcycle purchase of any kind, so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

See if you can the the VIN early enough to have your local dealer run it and make sure that all updates have been done...
Ask the seller about:
The throttle bodies: A common part to fail...
The DPS system: was this replaced? It should have been!
The throttle position sensor: goes along with the throttle bodies...
Check the tire wear...
look for uneven wear patterrns or cupping

I hope that i haven't scared you off the bike... Good Luck!
Oh!! :welcome:

Thanks Bob. The seller did mention that there was a recall on the trike that has been taken care of. Is that the DPS system you mention? (I'm not sure what a DPS system is...)

The DPS is the power steerinfg unit...
They were all recalled for it back in the Fall of 2010...

Oh! I also ride a 2010 RT; I admire your taste in bikes!

Let's see..!!

Bob pretty much covered it but if possible run by dealer and get a BUDS printout letting you know how it's doing...good luck hope you ryding this weekend...!!

:agree: With Bobbo... Do your homework and you will get the results you want!

Ask for all maintenance records and receipts. Ask to take the Spyder to a dealer for inspection. They may be able to answer many of the questions you may have concerning the Spyder and alert you to any concerns you may need to consider as you negociate a price.

:welcome:

I agree with all the advice here. Ask if there's an extended warranty. That should give you some peace of mind. If not, renegotiate.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies. I hope to be riding on Saturday (I will have a 4.5 hour ride home should I decide to make the purchase!).

Looking forward to interacting with all of you more often on the forums.

Best,
Keith

Ask to see his service records!
