• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

A sad story with a very happy ending!

A few months ago, I decided to install Ride-On in both of our Spyders. I had some vibration issues and after a couple of emails and phone calls to the folks at Ride-On, I removed the wheel weights on both Spyders. I continued to have issues, mainly at highway speeds. Since most of my driving is to and from work on side roads (max speed 50 mph) I didn't think anymore about it.

When we decided to make the trip to Chicago, the vibration was so bad I thought the front fenders were going to break off! I asked my wife if she was experiencing any vibration and she said it was very smooth at all speeds.

When we got back home, I took hers for a ryde and couldn't believe the difference compared to mine. I took my wheels off and decided to have the Ride-On removed and wheels rebalanced. I took them to a local tire store (big mistake!), explained what I had and what I wanted done. "No problem", they told me. A bit later the manager came over to me and said he had good news and some bad news. They got the Ride-On removed however they gouged all three spokes on one of the rims. Of course I was livid! The manager said to bring in a receipt and he would reimburse me for the rim.

I called a couple of dealers and was shocked to find out that the cost of 1 stock rim was over $200.00! I checked Ebay and found a brand new set of the custom black rims for $389.18, shipping included. I always liked the looks of the custom rims so I ordered them. 2 days later they arrived!

I took the receipt to the local tire dealer and true to his word, he paid me $194.59. Now here is where the story takes a turn. I took the old tires and the new rims to a local motorcycle shop to have the tires swapped over. Before I did that, I asked him to check the balance on my old rims/tires to see how far out of balance they were. It was then the source of all my troubles was discovered: both rims were bent/out of round!

I have no idea how long they were that way. I don't recall ever hitting anything or running over anything that might have caused it. Like I said, most of my driving prior to Chicago has been on side roads at speeds at or below 50 mph. It could have been a manufacturing defect and has been that way since I picked it up.

I now have a totally different Spyder that rydes as smooth as glass at all speeds! :2thumbs:

Oh, I forgot to mention. I ordered more Ride-On for my new rims/tires. In addition, I have a new issue. My wife wants the same rims for her Spyder!:shemademe_smilie:

Surely very odd but glad all is good. My bike has been riding a little funny as of late...checked the air pressure...argh! Very low...pumped it up and now it's a lot more comfortable...makes sense...

As far as your bent rims go...:yikes: Glad you have that resolved! Still have to get my Ride-on in...probably takes only a few minutes but I just haven't gotten it done yet...

I recommend that anyone with vibration issues, take your front wheels off and have them balanced. Shouldn't cost more than $15 or $20. I'm curious if anyone else has "out of round" factory rims!
