A question for riders in Canada

I'm just curious, ryder's south of the border tend to travel at hyper speeds 😉 just kidding of course, but our speeds north of 49th parallel are conservative in comparison!

Now my question is can these be driven around town at between 40 to 60 kph or are they only a highway tool?

Most 'in town' speed limits here in Oz are in that 40-60 kph range, and there are quite a few Spyder riders who spend a lot of their time riding around our towns & cities at those sorts of speeds with no apparent ill effects to the bike. If you stick to the 'best' rev range for those speeds, it might mean a lot of 2nd & 3rd gear riding, but the engine & transmission are made with that in mind, so I don't see it being an issue - altho throwing it in top gear (5th or 6th depending) as soon as you get moving might mean you work your left hand a bit more or the SE box kicks the trans down whenever you flinch your right wrist; but that's just another reason why you would be better off driving at mid range revs rather than lugging around in too high a gear!

And besides, while we do have a lot of low speed limits in our Aussie towns, for those down under who want to travel faster every now & then, we do have just a bit of road out there with 100+ kph limits and towns few & far between! ;)

:spyder2: can be operated at any speed. We drove the Hana Highway on Maui Hawaii. 50 miles and I never got out of first gear. Average speed 25 mph. That's about 40 kph I believe.

We were driving the manual transmission variety. .

As others have posted, not just a highway tool but are good to go around town at 40-60k. Just remember to keep the revs up on the 998 engine.

I too noticed the speeds mentioned south of the border. For most of Canada our top posted speed is 110kph (68 mph) although there are highways in BC that are 120,k (75mph)

BTW AK 25 mph is about 40 kph

Here's the thing..!!

The clutches...on the SE motors (998 cc twin) the clutch is still slipping as it gets to the full engagement around 3,500 rpms. Ryding around under this is extra wear on the plates. The SM you pretty much know when your lugging cause you control the clutch. I don't even get to 5th till over 70 mph/105 kph on my RS sm. Buds has me ryding 70% of the time between 4,000 and 6,000 rpms. So you can ryde at any speed but watch the Rpms....

Thankyou gentlemen, I believe I may have found an arachnid with all the relevant details, risers, high screen and 2008 to boot hopefully it's still available next week [emoji108]

You can ride anywhere you want.:yes::yes:

I really wouldn't recommend going off-road with a Spyder... it's going to get totally stuck the 1st gully you try to cross. :lecturef_smilie:

They're kinda intended for the paved highway system.

Although I enjoy going off the beaten track, I won't be dirt tracking with a Spyder although what's it like for jumping humped back bridges?

The 10 Spyders that went North to Alaska last month did pretty darn good on your Canadian pavement or lack thereof.

In the city, for the most part the limit is from 50-60 km which is 30-40 mph. there are certain roads which indicate a higher speed limit like our intown so-called free/way system 70-80 kmh ( 45-50 mph). If I am on a road which dictates 40 mph/60kmh and is clear sailing I will go to fifth gear no problem , if traffic is freaking stupid , lucky to hit 3rd gear. Listen to your bike. Yes the manual say's it all BUT ?????????.. Check it out for yourself. FROM A CANUCK
