• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. A little RT info

As you know I have the RT with the SE trans. I was playing with the "trailer mode" on the RT and what it does is change the shift rpm's. Going from first to second you can only shift when you get to about 4600 rpm's, all the other gears are close to that same shift point. The other thing I noticed is it will down shift at a much higher rpm so you pretty much can't lug it in trailer mode.

The bummer is it defaults to "no trailer" mode after you turn it off and back on again. You can run it like that just fine but I kind of like the way it works in trailer mode.

As far as I know this has nothing to do with the VSS or braking.

The other thing I played with was I took the MP3 adapter and plugged it in where you would plug your headset. It has a male 1/8" jack on the other end that would plug into a standard MP3 player. This is suppose to be used in the back trunk but if you do it like I did and go to Radio Shack and get a female coupler you can plug in your earbuds and control it with the buttons on the bars. So I had my iphone/ipod in the trunk, my earbuds plugged into the front headset jack and was able to hear and control everything from the bars. :doorag:

Lamonser finds great use for the MP3 adaptor!

As for the Shifting Pattern it sounds as though its kind of set up like a lot of Pick-ups,, I drive a 05 Dodge Ram with the IN-TOW button on the end of the shifter and it adjust automatically to the trailer weight and makes the adjustment.. The same thing happens, one thing also is that if you are traveling DOWN a hill with-out acceleration the tranny will DOWNSHIFT at a higher RPM--kind of hard to explain but I know most of you know what I'm talking about, scared me kind of the first time it happened, I thought "What the heck?" Anyway I'm thinking possible the RT is set up that way maybe,,, Off the top of my head I'm thinking this is a good thing right?

This is what we use: Scala. Really like them used the Teamset for 3 years. It is Bluetooth and will work with the Zumo gps & Motorola cell phone & has a plug for Ipod. Don't know how to make it work with the RT stereo.

Lamont,
It appears from the photo that you have the CB option installed already. Can you handle calls on the iphone with that setup?
I cannot wait for my CB setup to get here to see what the options and alternatives are.
Thanks,
Cappy

With a price tag listed of $975, I'm thinking I'll just keep yelling over my husband's shoulder.... :ohyea:

PS my husband just said that's a lot of moola to spend to eliminate peace & quiet.... :chill:

Guess they forgot to add a "Peace-and-Quiet" mute button. :roflblack: If all you want is rider-to-passenger communications...and maybe some music in your helmet instead of externally, there are other, cheaper alternatives. I will say that once you have had the ability to talk back and forth as you ride, it is hard to live without a comm system. It is nice to be able to discuss what you see, where you want to go, or the fact that it's time for a potty break. Not being rapped along side of the helmet, or tapped on the shoulder to begin to interpret the sign language, becomes habit forming. :D

That's all we want.... any ideas? would that have to work with the Spyder or be independent of it? :coffee:

BlueAnt Bluetooth Interphone/Intercom

We have used the BlueAnt Bluetooth Interphone/Intercom System for two years and we are happy with the reception and voice quality. We have used the wireless helmet intercoms bike to bike when we both ride solo as well as giving the set a good test on our first three day long ride on our RT. Again, happy with reception even when we are that close together on the bike.
One drawback on our BlueAnt and our friends tell us the problem is the same with the Scala System is talk time. On intercom mode you will have about four hours of talk time. We solved the problem for long days on this last trip ( 8 to 12 hour days ) by having two sets each. I bought a second set off Ebay for about $125.00. Now when we stop for lunch we change to our second set and put both the other interphones on the charger which hooks up to the 12Volt outlet in the rear compartment. Worked really well for us on the trip.

We use the Starcom1 wired systems. From what has been said, you can actually hook up your Ipod to both the comm system, through the 3.5 mm plug, and the Spyder, through the iPod cord, and maintain handlebar control. There are other, similar systems, like the Autocom, Baehr, J&M, etc.. There are also Bluetooth wireless systems like the Carda Scala, Chatterbox, and others. Google "motorcycle comm systems" and you will get some ideas. All these systems work independent of the Spyder, but are also not integrated to the Spyder controls and displays (with the exception I mentioned above).
