• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. A couple battery questions

Gotta couple questions about batteries. My stocker packed it in last spring after two years, so I replaced it with my quad battery as I blew the motor so why not. The battery was a perfect fit so I used it the rest of the riding season. Now that one has bitten the dust. So I took my battery from my jetski to move it from the back shop around the house to the garage. This battery is the same height and depth but about 2" shorter in length, but it works. I took it out as soon as I was done. This is an energizer 20L-bs with agm technology. Can this battery be layed on it side? That way I can ride until I can get a replacement.
Also why don't these batteries las very long. I know now to leave it on a tender but I used to take it out charge it up and then charge it just before riding season. I see a recomendation for the odyssey pc 680 but we have no suppliers so thats a no go for warranty.

:dontknow:
I have the original battery in my 08GS pushing almost 3 years now never put it on a tender, When this one gives up the ghost I'll go out and replace it with a stock one. I figure the stock battery went 3 years why change. Besides i don't think I'll have this Spyder for 3 more years.
I rarely kept any bike more than 3 years.

why not have battery shipped to you?

I could do that but was told that its a hazerdous material and will incur additional costs if they can ship it over the boarder. So with that I might as well buy one from napa, but at that it will take a couple days to have it shipped.

Well I was able to find a supplier of the odyssey battery and have one on order. Should be here in a week. And the good news is they have a 2 year warranty.

How bout sharing the info with all of us.. Do you have the link to the site? Or the manufactor??

Thank you

Measure your current battery(LxWxH) and head to WALMART !!! $50.00 and they last just as long. They have a good selection of motorcycle batterys. Head to the hardware section first and grab a tape measure and head on over to the automotive section. Measure the batterys until you find the right size and then leave the tape measure on the shelf next to the batterys for a store employee to return the tape measure it to it's proper location. And head to the checkout counter. See that was easy !!! :2thumbs: What ??? Your acting like I have done this before !!!:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

Oh, come on...you can't use anything stock...it just isn't good enough! :joke:

(on that note, my stock battery is 2.5 years old...no issues either...would either get Lamont's suggestion or go stock..due to size difference, stock is fine by me...if it ain't broken, don't try to fix it!)

finally got the battery in and..... its big time smaller. How did y'all stop it from floppin around in the battery holder? There's a good 1" clearance around. I have the strap on it and can still wiggle it around. ALso what type of connectors do I need to hook up the positive? Its not long enough and the end is bent the wrong way.

Just put some foam type material in the extra space,.

I have the Odyssey PC680 and had the same problem. I used the 2 'L' brackets/connectors that came with the battery. I explained in a different post how I placed them together. No pics in that post.

Here's the post:

If you need a pic., I won't have the spyder back until Monday.

Sorry no link it was a local independant autoparts store.
I got a great deal on eBay on the Ody 680 over winter. $108 shipped to anywhere in the US.

Any acid battery with VENT hose should not be mounted on its side AGM or no AGM. You are going to get acid leak everywhere and rust any metal it touches. In addition, if the battery is not sealed, air will corrode the zinc in the battery when exposed when it lays on its side. As soon as there is enough oxide on the plate to short the battery, you are done. My guess its probably what happened to your ATV battery.:dontknow:
