FISPYD3R & I, (SPYD3R), logged in over 6000 miles on our ride...
Day 1, my riding partner, Pat and i found our way to Rt. 84 in Dothan, AL, via 441... from there we headed west on Rt. 84 to New Mexico, stopping in Odessa, TX to visit with my good friend Drew Baker.... once in NM, we stopped at Carlsbad, NM to visit Carlsbad Caverns (AWESOME, a MUST see)... then heading north, we stopped in Roswell, NM for the night to see the aliens... NO, not the Mexicans, you know, people from Mars - they never showed up....
from there, we cross NM on Rt. 70/380 to Socorro and hopped onto Rt. 60 west... we passed thru the VLA, http://www.vla.nrao.edu/ , this way incredible...
from there, we continued on Rt. 60 to Show Low, AZ... fabulous town, high in the Arizona desert... met a great guy, Frank, that will be riding with me to Nova Scotia next year... from Show Low, we headed north on Rt. 77 to west on US 40... OMG, posted 80 MPH, and everyone does 10 - 15 mph above that.... we kept our speeds between 2 & 5 mph under posted speeds above 70 mph...
along US40, in northern AZ, the DPW were cutting Ponderosa Pines down and mulching them for at least 100 miles... what a terrific smell that produced...
while on US 40, we detoured to Meteor Crater for a visit... OMG - a mile wide by 2000 ft deep dent that was generated in a milli-second... awesome, awesome, awesome.... from there we headed to Golden Valley, AZ to visit with my friend: Glenn Johnson...
after a number of days touring the north-western part of AZ, including Rt. 66, Lake Havasu, Oatman (and official Ghost Town) and the surrounding areas...
during my stay at Glenns, Pat proceeded to Oxnard, CA to visit with his son Wayne... upon Pat return, Pat, Glenn and i headed north to Las Vegas on US15 to Utah to ride Utah Rt. 12 (again, for me)... Rt. 12 is called: America's Most Scenic Highway - and it truly is a sight to see... staying the night in Torrey,UT, the 3 of us had pizza at a local restaurant... excellent, i mite add... the next morning, Glenn headed south - back home, while Pat and i headed east, northeast up Rt. 24.... incredible road... flat and straight for 100 miles... NO POSTED SPEED LIMIT... we were doing about 70, and cars were flying by us...
we entered Colorado, and rode various routes... awesome again... entering Granby, CO, we headed north on Rt. 34 thru ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK.... SCARED TO DEATH of heights, i rode along the edge of the mountain for about 50 miles, with drop-offs that were thousands of feet down and NO FREAK'n GUARD RAILS.... we saw moose, all types of deer, and various other animals... we even saw SNOW on these mountains... WOW, in July...
after crossing the mountains, we headed north in Greeley, CO on Rt. 85 to Wyoming... great country, great scenery... as we crossed into Wyoming, we stopped in Cheyenne to have lunch.... STEAK for $7.95... we thought, "how good can it be?"... well it turned out to be the BEST steak i've ever eaten...
while in Wyoming, we stopped at DEVILS TOWER... incredible sight... everyone needs to see this thing... from Devils Tower, we rode east on US90 to Deadwood, SD... in D'wood, i visited with my good friend; Dave Taylor... he says "hi" to all his GE pals... D'wood is AWESOME... so much to see and do... while there, we visited MOUNT RUSHMORE, the BLACK HILLS, THE CENTER OF THE UNITED STATES of AMERICA... also stopped in at Sturgis to see the activities going on for this coming weeks STURGIS 2015 event, they are expecting upwards of 1.5 million people...
after 4 days in Deadwood, we headed for home... first day we did 711 miles, second day; 660, then 360 and HOME....
ALL in ALL, it was the most fabulous ride i've ever been on... 6057 MILES of SMILES....
