• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I'm do for my 6000 mile service has anybody skiped it. Is it worth it or is it another way for the dealership to make a buck?
It's not that i'm cheap but i hate to mess with anything thats not broke.

:dontknow:
I just changed the oil and filter myself. And made sure what has to be tight was tight. IF you do decide to Skipp it AT least change the oil and filter.

I would do oil change and filter and maybe air filter and spark plugs if they were never changed. The only issue I see is what kind of adjustment the throttle body gets and reverse mechanism on the SM5 model gets.I also agree do not touch if it is not broken.

I had a question regarding this (scheduled maintenance) as well. Does the shop manual go over what the service intervals are and what procudures are done for each?

No need to go to the shop manual. Your Owners Guide has the maintenance chart. 6K maintenance includes some things that are difficult for the owner to do, such as the first valve check and retorquing the front sprocket (service bulletin item). Lots of people skip that one...and even some dealers. It seems unnecessary so early, but be sure your dealer will stand behind your warranty if either you or he skips it...or any other required maintenance item. If anyone has not had their belt adjusted to the revised spec, and the front sprocket retorqued, a visit to the dealer at the appropriate interval may be a good idea.

6000 mi checkup

I have over 10,000 mi on my RT now and I am about to put another 5000 mi on it with a round trip from Ohio to California and back. I did the oil/filter change at 3000 and another one at about 7000 while on my first CA trip a couple of weeks ago. I did another oil/filter change when I got back from my first CA trip and had the dealer check things over. He pulled the rear spark plug and it looked ok so we skipped the front one.

My plan is to do everything this winter (valves, bearings, etc.). I'll have over 16,000 miles on her by then (not bad since I picked her up in March, 2010).

I would skip the 6,000 mile valve check-- wait till you hit 12,000 and then check them. Everything else is pretty simple to do yourself.
