There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 600 mile service

Im new here just got my spyder rts. I was just wondering if anyone does there own 600 mile service.

I did my own, But if; And no insult here, If your a novice, Let the dealer do the first one.
Then you can work your way up to doing the rest yourself.
There's a lot more evolved than just changing oil.

They tell me the first service cost $450.00. What all is actually done in this first service? I have two other bikes I have done all the services on all of them.

Read the manual, The Spyder is not a bike.
Most bikes you just change oil and filters, tighten lose things and lube / adjust the chain.
The Spyder is much more Complicated.

Just an FYI, my first service (800 miles) was $249 but was rolled into the cost of the bike purchase.

The dealers do a lot more than change the oil.

I just had my 3k oil change that included.

Oil and Filter.
Coolant top off.
Reset tension and alignment of drive belt.
Lube Suspension arms.
Adjust parking brake.
brake inspection.
General Bike inspection.

Software update.

Labour $115.

Parts $127.89

Total $242.89

Peace of mind priceless.

My Dealer did the following to my RTS-SE5 for a 600 mile service on July 25, 2012.

Repace engine oil & filter

Inspect & cleaned the oil tank strainer

Replaced SE5 semi auto transmission filter (LONG)

Inspect engine coolant

Inspect fault codes

Install computer updates

Inspect & align drive belt

Lube front suspension

Inspect parking brake

2.5 hours of labor at $118.00 dollars per hour

85.00 dollars for parts (full synthetic oil, filters, o-rings

Total cost $447.31

It sounds like you have a good dealer. Where I bought ours they charge $450.00 for the 600 mile service . I would be better off to take a road trip to your dealer.

$250-$300 is a ballpark for that first service.

I don't recommend valve adjustments when you get to the 12,000 either. BRP just recently changed the specs but some of us are going much farther with that. I did not do them at 12K or 24K--now I am thinking about doing them at 36K--but will wait and see.

That service will make your bill $800 or higher since they charge about 4 hours extra for that service.

:welcome:

Since you have an RT I would do the Oil Change and All of the checklist and Then Bring it to the Dealer to Just do the Computer Update (*If Needed*) .
With the 2009 GS I never went to a Dealer Except for 1 Problem and have 21,000 miles and 2 years 9 Months on machine.
