600 Mile Service

Picking up my bike today from it's 600 mile service. However, it is pouring down raining so my bike will get wet for the first time. I will have to ride 47 miles from Cullman, Al to Huntsville Al. I know this is nothing for you guys but it will be my first ride in the rain so I thought I would share.

Keep the rain up there. It's beautiful here in Hoover. You will have more confidence ryding in the rain after your first one. Good Luck!

Tim,
I bought a 2012 RT for Christmas and I'm getting close to my 600 miles, my dealer didn't share much about the initial service, can you share any pro's con's or what to look for when it's done, what did your dealer charge for this first service..........thanks..........stay dry

Thanks GI, I was hoping I would escape the rain today but no such luck. I guess now is good of time as any to ride in the rain.

The dealer charged me $375.00 for the service. I'm not really sure what was involved but the engine seems to sound and run a little tighter. I also had them adjust the shocks stiffer which made a big difference in handling. The service guy who's name is Mike was really helpful. He showed me how to check the oil and how to take off the mirrors and side covers. I also payed another $110 dollars to have an extra 12V adapter installed in the front.

The first service is a must. I know guys that didn't bother but an oil change is not the only thing done. Belt adjustment, Budds hookup to check out everything and reset steering and greasing those hard to get at grease nipples on the suspension joints. I would think about two hours or so labour plus parts. Some dealers are forgiving but they are not there to give stuff away with big overhead expensives. If you can change your own oil until your next big service then you can save up for it!! I needed my rear tire as well at the 12,000 mile service but anyway, it over now and want to forget about it, LOL!

So how did your ryde in the rain go?

It went well GI. I actually got lucky. I ran into torrential rain fall on the way up but it started to clear up on the way home. I mainly had to deal with a wet road on the way back and the spyder performed very well. Thanks for checking on me.

Glad to hear all went well. If it ain't raining, we're not ryding! Seems like it rained everytime we went ryding last summer.

Glad you enjoyed your ride in the rain. Otherwise how is the weather out in your neck of the woods. Here at the Jersey Shore I was riding this weekend as the weather was awesome for this time of year (in the low 50's with sun). Last year this time we were digging out of many inches of snow. I've also been riding to work with no problem. Hope it keeps up because I just can't bear to put the bike away for the winter. BTW does anyone have the bumper guard from Spyderpops? I just ordered one and was wondering if anyone had any input.

Thanks Jersey girl, the weather is currently horrible here in Huntsville. The weather report is forecasting rain until Thursday and then the temperature will rop to 26 degrees for the low and 40 degrees for the hi. It's not looking good for me this week. I sat on my bike for 10 minutes in the garage, that's how bad I want to ride; I know, pretty sad case.

Sorry I'm not. I'm from that place where they film the show "Jersey Shore" on MTV. Sorry to say we are nothing like the show.:ohyea:
