600 Mile Inspection Cost

I fully intend on doing mine in the future. I do my truck, motorcycle and two cars, so it should be easy to do the Spyder. I was told by the dealer that they needed to do the first 600 mile work as it could cause warranty issues with BRP if they did not perform. Hmmm...maybe they we giving me a snow job?

My understanding is if you don't have the
dealership do the first 600 mile check and
sign off that they did so in your owners
manual, you could void your warranty.
There is a place near the back of the book
where they signed .

My Dealer is the top Spyder dealer in sales and the first service is at 3000km (1875 miles). They say at 1000km is way too early to do a service and a waste of money. The 3000km cost $189.00 for SM5 and RTS is $209.00 Cnd$.

I was quoted $189 for the 600 and all other changes from that point on... I may start doing my own after the first 3500 as I want to go full synthetic (unless they will do it and give me credit for the cost of the oil).

My first service in Jacksonville cost me $284.79.
I looked at the maintenance guide and figured if they did all the things listed it would be worth it. The Spyder tech is supposed to be very good, according to docriverside. Doc has been associated with the dealer since 2007 and I trust his judgement on this. I feel comfortable on the bike since the service, thinking that all items on the list were done and the bike is in top shape.
Hopefully I got what I paid for in this case....

$350 in San Bernardino and they dont offer the PLUS plan. I did call several So Cal dealerships and they would not honor the "PLUS" plan unless it was bought at their dealership to insure the purchase price covered the costs of the maintenance. Two dealership stated they did not sell the "PLUS" plan and would not honor the maintenance portion if someone was to bring in their RT.

$250 in SC

I had mine done as part of a pre-paid service agreement. Thought it would be the way to go, considering I've only owned cars before and hated working on them.

Fat fingers and a sense of claustrophobia makes for a frustrating time for me working on vehicles. Always dropping a vital part into a place that is unreachable:chill:

So I bought a pre-paid service plan, and got 3 oil changes out of it before they closed their doors.:gaah:

"fortunately" the plan was transferred to another dealer. Who, three months later lost their Spyder dealership and are not allowed to do warranty work on Spyders :gaah::gaah:.

Now that I've made a few friends that work on their own spyders, I may attempt/coerce/bribe them to walk me/hold my hand thru my own maintenence.:doorag:

I though east bay can am was quoting BEST PLUS plans.

are you saying dealer wont honor PLUS plans? you can buy plan from any dealer even ebay has them online and they just apply to your vin number. plus either plan gives you instant road service coverage :)

hmmm makes sense but the 1000km is the recommended inspection point in the manual. as long as they take care of you warranty wise .. or you have some proof you changed the oil at least. I wanted to get the first break in oil and filter out after the 600 miles

Just had my 600 mile maintenance and they charged me $177.00 at Hicklin Power Sport in Grimes IA. Even did the recall on the SE5 while I waited.

My Dealer quoted me $130.00 but said not to do at 600 miles wait until about 1,000 miles. nojoke
Sounds like you have a good dealership! price is good and trying to take care of you....would agree with everything he said!!

245.00 for my 600 mi checkup/oil change. Now, I do them myself, keep a copy of ll receipts for oil and stuff and am good to go. 6K service was a lot more though, and they just go up from there.......Ahhhhh....the price of ownership

i wonder if they put more weight on the 600 mile... there is a page in the manual for the date and dealer the 600 mile was done ! so with best ext warranty dont want to chance skipping it...

PLUS really want to get the first oil out after break in. i dont see why you would risk running first oil for 3000 miles

if you don't do the 600 at least change the oil and filter yourself

One of the most important tasks in the first oil change is to remove and clean the tank strainer, as well as clean the engine drain plug magnet. If you do your own change, don't neglect these. The dealer is also supposed to adjust the belt, grease the front supension, inspect and clear BUDS codes, and perform any updates that BUDS specifies. If you do the oil change, lube job, and/or belt adjustment yourself, to cut costs, be sure to stop by the dealer to have them complete the required tasks.

Doing your own maintenance is fine, but be sure to use the checklist for the appropriate interval, and perform all the tasks...or have the dealer do what you are unable to do. Also be sure to document what you did, thoroughly, and keep your receipts for the oil and required parts. That is your best insurance should warranty questions arise.

see my string under DSQUARE in the "SHOP TALK" forum titled "first oil change". Cost me $95 versus the $265 dealer quoted, and it ain't that hard:2thumbs:

I always did the work on my 2001 Valkyrie Interstate, and though the dealer gave me grief occasionally, he had to honor everything when I needed warranty service as I kept all the paper work from what ever I was doing on the bike! :2thumbs:

600 Mile / 1000 KM

Hi Guys,

Here in Quebec, I paid ($141 Canadian) for 600 mile oil change and inspection. They also replaced my rear shock, it was defective.

There seems to be a huge difference in prices from dealer to dealer in the US, here in Quebec I have 3 dealers within a 40 mile radius, all quote the same price, or are very close.
