• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

50 states spyder

does anybody know if spyders in the U.S. are all the same models? if registered outside California, can they easily be imported? if you bought and registered yours outside california, do you have the ca. emissions sticker under the seat? thanks.

Mine, bought in Winston-Salem, NC, has a label that says it was manufactured to meet U.S and California requirements for model year 2014. There's some stuff about NOX and other stuff, polutants I guess, but there is no specific label from or about CARB certification. Since states do not yet do emissions inspections on motorcycles I guess there's no specific requirement for some kind of CARB sticker. Just wait though, they'll get you eventually.:ohyea:

Where are you going..??

California is a world unto itself...if you get one outside they will still treat it like an alien being considering it has their own stamp of approval on it. Check the dmv before hand. Many buy out of state but have it sent to a dealer here to complete the trans action. Bought mine here so no problems but my car with all CA emissions was a hassel...:banghead:

Meeting California requirements means that it is California Air Resources Board (CARB) compliant.

I can tell you it is a royal pain in the rear to get a spyder bought outside Ca and get it registered in Ca.
It can be done but you have to jump through hoops.

I bought mine new in Nevada. Fortunately, they knew to sell me a 50 states model (not the 49 states model, as they once had to take one back from another CA client).

Registering it was annoying - I used a company that charges $100 and handles the DMV for you. The main issue was that he was supposed to check the engine block number, which I still have no idea how to get to (in the end, he opted to trust that it was correct and not deal with the tupperware).

Check with DMV first.......

There's rules in Kalifornia about motorcycles being registered from out of state. Call DMV and follow rules they give you. It's not that hard and it will save you a bunch of head aches in the long run. :banghead: Good luck, and see yea in the road some day.

It is such a pain. You gotta have perfect paperwork, take it to the CHP to get it inspected, then to the DMV for more inspections. You have to remove all the tubberware and have it towed.

I have never been through such a hassle. Ever.

I have never heard of any physical difference between the 49 state models vs. A CA model and no differences show up in the parts lists that I can see.
However, with that being said, I just went out and looked at my 2012 and saw no mention whatsoever about anything CA on any labels under the seat or along the swingarm.

Even if the only difference is the sticker, it is a very important sticker to DMV. It makes no sense. It is one of the many ways the government punishes us for living close to the beaches, the mountains, and the desert, with year-round nice weather.

I agree, and that's why I answered the way I did.
While I see no mechanical differences between the state models, there is no specific CA sticker or logo on my NJ registered 2012 purchased in DE.
Personally, If I lived in CA I'd buy in CA and avoid the headache...

Sorry you are incorrect.

Am I looking at those diagrams correct? No purge valve for CA models? Or is it just another little valve above the purge?

Follow the long short dashed line. The purge valve is common to both. The dashed line splits for non and California options. There is a flow restrictor in the California routing. Why California would want the fumes to be cleared slower? :dontknow::dontknow:
