• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

50 state legal

Can I aaume the spyder is 50 state legal...I cant find anything on the Can-Am site. Thinking of buying an out of state (california) spyder. California is the odd state as we all know!

Cali is an odd state when it comes to mc's I hear. Environmental and taxes. If you buy a new out of state bike it's like it will be in quarantine for six months before you register it. I bought a trailer at Cowtown and there was no sales tax or registration. I don't know if MO has sales tax, it don't sounds like it. I go to register it at the DMV in Cali and I had to pay the Cali sales tax. If I brought it in after one year then no. I asked what if I had paid sales tax in MO. If their tax rate was less than Cali then I would have to pay the difference. This is crazy.

I hope it is california legal , I think every vehicle made anymore is 50 state legal but I cannot find anything definitive. Oddly enough you do not need a MC license to ride the can-am california (although I do have the MC endorsement)

buying out of state is the same i believe in most states. I don't consider CAli a state anymore soooo:roflblack: :joke:

You would pay the sales tax in the state you register the vehicle or trailer.

Be carefull about buying out of state. I read on this site that you cannot register an out of state motorcycle with less than 7000 miles on it. I has been years since I read this, so I might be off on the info. I am sure someone who know more about it will chime in.

It's the emissions package that will decide if California will let you in to play or not. :gaah: I think that there's a sticker under the seat which does say that the Spyders are 50 State legal; it means that they've already been configured to comply with California's standards.
I'd veify that fact and then call your local DMV office to get the story right from the only source that really matters.
Let us know what you learn!

If there is a 50 state legal sticker then it is ok to bring into California...I think

When you buy a vehicle out of state. You pay your resident state sales tax. The out of state dealer can collect the tax for your state or you can pay the sales tax when you register the vehicle. CA does not require it's residents to have a motorcycle endorsement for three wheeled motorcycles. Your CA license will be valid in all states for you to ride your Spyder. All states honor other states driver licenses and their endorsements on a temporary basis.

Same in WA

Yes same tax scenario applies here. I bought my RT in Illinois..had to show original docs of sale. IL sales tax is less than WA..so I had to pay difference. WA gives you 60 days to register. Know several people who live here but some how register in MT to save $$. Not sure how..:dontknow:

Agree. :spyder2: should be legal in all 50 states. I find it too much hassle to by in state X and bring it to state Y in order to save a little in sales tax. Each state wants to get what is due them, and its an exercise in futility sometimes to avoid issues.

California is in such deep doo doo that they are flailing around at everything to make some extra money. I would avoid that web at all costs.
