At 12:16 a.m. a baby girl was born to this world. There was no spontaneous respiration, she was anoxic and blue. Took the nurses about 4 minutes to get her breathing. They took her right to the nicu. I went home at 2:00 a.m. At 6:00 a.m. I was called to report for a recall. I explained what took place earlier but my supervisor still made me come in. Back home, the phone rang at 9:00. Kris said I needed to get back asap. There were problems. When I got to the base hospital the nurse asked if I had a camera. I said it was in the car. She said I better get it. It was then I noticed tears in her eyes. I went to the NICU and the picture below is what I found. Our daughter was air evaced to a hospital in Norfolk Va. She spent three weeks in NICU before we could bring her home. A year and a half later, we found out she was brain injured at birth caused by the poor choices made by the OB on duty that Easter weekend she was born. It was "why us" for a long time before it turned to "why not". Today we celebrated her 31st birthday. She is and always will be our "baby girl".
