3000 MILE SERVICE- TO DO OR NOT TO DO ???? That is the question.

To all the pros out there. I had my 600 mile service , which my dealer recommends( of course ) to make sure everything is functioning properly. I now have 2,000 miles on my
S2S and asked them about the 3000 mile service, as to whether or not I need it already having the 600 mile service. He said it is up to me and SHOULD BE OKAY if I wait until 6000 miles for the next one. What do all the professionals out there think I should do ?

By the way, the mechanic did say that the 1330 does not burn oil like the 998's and is a much more efficient engine.

I will be having the 3,000 miles service next week and realize it is mandatory to keep the warranty in effect.

If it were me........... personally I would do what the manual says to do. The 1st one wasn't needed but that's water under the bridge.

I would be concerned that if something did happen and you couldn't provide proof of the 3000 mile "Manufacturer's" service interval that the claim might be denied.
There is still some break-in/settling going on with the engine and transmission with the relatively low miles it has. The peace of mind for me would be well worth it.

Besides dealerships come and go, who's to say that your dealer will be in business to back you up if the need were to arise.

Much merit in pidjones' recommendation. Do you have a list from the 600 mile, allegedly necessary service that you can compare with the items in your operator's guide 3,000 service checklist? Why would you want to introduce another, unnecessary service at 6,000 miles? K80Shooter's recommendation is spot on if you want to protect your vehicle warranty to say nothing about the break-in of the powerplant. It's your roadster and your wallet.

You need to read the manual do what it recommends, 3000 mi for the first service. You just wasted a bunch of cash .Sorry, my fingers hit the like and thanks by mistake

Unless it's free warranty work I won't let the dealer Techs to touch my Spyder/s ...... good luck .....Mike

We have discussed service intervals about your Spyder.

It is becoming obvious to many of us that your dealer does not know diddly. There is no 600 mile service, there is no 6,000 mile service for your particular machine. Those went away with the 998 engines.

Don't believe us, but we do advise following what your manual says.

I would go to a different dealer, explain the situation, have the 3000 mile (Operator Manual recommended) done with him so that it is on record, and stay the heck away from the original dealer. The original dealer was blowing smoke….

I just got back from a short 35 mile ride. Everything went well except for some reason I can't get the volume back on the radio. In reference to what everyone said about the 3000 service,I agree that it should be done. It's almost identical to the 600 mile service that the dealer did. That was a quick $287. Do they really check everything ? Who knows unless you watch, and that is definitely not permitted. They have been a Canam dealer for many years and they aren't going anywhere. Famous last words. LOL. There is new ownership and they seem to be making the customers happy. I guess they will be changing the oil and filter again. Everyone is right that the 600 mile service should be a freebee to make sure the customers bikes are working properly. That is why they said that, besides making $287 dollars. I want to thank everyone for their opinions. Ride on Spyder's. They did do a front end laser alignment for me at no charge after I had the bike for a week or so.
