I will be hitting the first service around the time I get to the Red Rock Rally. Any suggestions on reputable dealer to get the service done while there or on the way there through Utah? Moto Zoo in St. George?
I will need to call now and make the appointment.

Thanks

To SpyderAnne or Cptjam.....they know that area well.....heck I know they reallllllly like their dealer.....of course they do their own and others service...just sayin' See you soon...counting down...wow Sept almost here....NICE:yes:

You are about 1,000 miles from St. George, right? If it were me I'd have the service done before I left home. You've got a month before the rally to put 1,000 miles on your Spyder. I would not recommend having the service done in St. George. During rallies dealers are quite busy with people who are experiencing problems with their Spyders that may keep them from being able to ride at all.

Get the oil changed at home at a minimum and you can always have the rest of the service done when you get back.

I agree with Ann. Talk to your dealer service tech. He may very well agree with what my service manager recommended when I was facing the same situation with regard to attending Spyderfest last spring. Do an oil change now and the 3k mile service later. Getting the 3k service done at 3000 miles isn't overly critical but it's best not to put off the first oil & filter change a long time. I did an oil & filter change early, at about 930 miles and waited until I got back to schedule the 3k mile service. It didn't get done until 5900 miles.

In my case I bought the '14 RTS used with 654 miles on it. It was originally sold in August, 2014 so the year plus before doing the first oil change was a consideration.

I made an appointment to just have the break-in oil & filter changed, then do the complete service when I get back. I'm having it laser aligned by Joe and Ann at the rally, so I know they will hook it up to the buds software for a check.

Thanks all,

just what do you get from a dealer that you cant do yourself ? i did an xps
oil change, had a laser align, belt tension and rear wheel were checked ,have
went over fasteners, and checked fluids. brakes are ok. what else? irv

I like having the spyder hooked up to the buds software for any issues or updates to the firmware. So, while it's in, go ahead and change the oil and filter. Also doing this BRP has a record of services and checks and any reported issue from me. (Warranty)

My detailing the bike after every ride is where I get to know every bolt or fastener, belt tension, inspect tires, fluids, etc.

Is 1st Service at 3000 or 5000 miles?

I was talking to the service manager, where I bought my spyder, and mentioned that I would be in soon for my 3000 mi service. He told me that the 1st service for models with the 1330cc ACE engines wasn't until 5000 mi. I assume he knows when a service is due. Based on that conversation, I'm not planning my 1st service until I hit 5000 mi. So perhaps you might not need to worry about a service until after the trip... Either way you need to go with whatever option you feel comfortable with in the care of your Spyder. I just wanted to let you know what I was told. Enjoy the trip...

This makes me laugh. Generally what dealers would tell people is that the first service was due at 600 miles on the 1330 like it is on the 998. The first service on the 1330 is 3,000 miles. All of the service schedules are in your owners manual, along with a ton of other useful information.

I'd be looking for a different dealer.

+1

Do not assume he knows, read the manual.

Thanks for the input. I'll run the 1st service mileage issue (3000 vs 5000 mi)with the service manager when he's back in the shop later in the week. I'll let you know what I find out.

You really should check your owners manual like others have said. 3000 miles/5000 kilometers is the first service on the 1330 engine.

I would not take what the service manager tells you as correct. Its a shame that some dealership shops don't know what they are talking about. Its always better to refer to the owners manual that came with your Spyder. And yes it is 3000 miles when the first oil change is due.
