240mi Round trip for 600mi service.

I did it today went to Velocity in Ladson SC. Top notch service by PJ  $362 for 600 mi. service and he found 4 bolts either missing or loose in my frunk from the original setup from my selling dealer as well as missing holders for the front fender lights wires:mad:. I am not happy with my selling dealer they simply did a half butted job putting it together. I though my Frunk was a little floppy when I put Spyderpops skid plate on. They ordered a replacement for my #4 plastic link ( already replaced with BahaRon's) so I have a back up set. They also ordered a new "O" ring for my oil dipstick that simply disintegrated after 1 oil check. They charged me $45 to run the wiring to my new power outlet in the dash. I have an RT and I drilled a hole in the plate that covers where the RTL gauges go. I can use it to trickle charge the battery or my phone/GPS ( future farkle). Took 3 hrs and the wife and I went to Folly beach and got some shots of the Morris Island Light House ( we have a Light House collection). We had great lunch a Folly Beach Pier and I had the best Shrimp & Grits I have ever had ( and I have had a lot I use it as a test and have been disappointed a lot). Over all average 26.5mpg took all back roads and traffic was non existent till we took the wife's car to Folly but she was surprised by the Light house.

Overall it was a good trip. Got to try out my new Utopia Backrest and my El Cheapo Memory foam/gel seat pad. Both made it a much more enjoyable ride I am a little tired but not sore. Saw 3 Spyders for the first time in one day it was a beautiful day for riding. Even got a lot (1/2) of the Harley riders waves. Lots of bikes on the road. Did some 65+mph sections and bike was stable. I had one issue that scared me and I still can't wrap my mind around it. I was in the right lane doing 60mph and all of a sudden it went to the left lane I had to fight it not sure exactly why. Maybe a wind gust. The rest of the trip it went straight as an arrow with very little hand grip even on some of the bumpy SC back roads. Might have been a wind gust but really dunno what happened. So here are a couple pics of the wife & I.

Bummer..!!

long trip but glad you found the place to get the best service. Sounds like was a fun ryde and worth it..enjoy and cut loose a bit..!!

A good hard gust of wind can really shove the Spyder around a lot, so that might have been the case. As long as it isn't a recurrent issue (The pull, not the wind!), then I'd say you are in the clear.

I hope so. It really felt like a tire going down or a brake grabbing it was quite strange. Glad there were no other vehicle next to me when it happened :yikes:

I wanted to share a couple of other things PJ told me about my RT.

1. Even though the new tension for the 2013 belt is 1050N he suggests ( and does) setting it to 400-600N he has seen too many bearing issues and says he has seen no issues with that on the 2013 bikes he works on at that setting.

2 Putting the adjustable lower deflectors under the windshield will cause air to go into the honeycomb that is blocked by the non adjustable stock ones. The benefit is it will go under the Tupperware helping keep the fuel tank and everything else cooler ( and possibly clearing fuel vapors?).

3. In his experience he has seen very few bike with the fuel smell. A couple but not many. Just reinforces something we all know and that is most forums are where people with problems go. Those that don't have any do other things :)

One other thing I had driven home to me today ( and have read here before) is look ahead in curves and aim for that. I went through a lot today and some sharp ones at 60mph and all my twitchiness goes away if I do not look too close to the front of the bike. Drive it like a car you don't look at the hood or fenders but down the road. Don't look at the centerline or edges but aim for the center around the bend out in front of you  This is for all the people who think they have twitchy bikes we have met the enemy and he is us ( Pogo)

Magdave,PJ and Velocity are the best! next time you are going to be in town drop us a PM or send me a email and maybe we can get togather, my wife(SDM) and I love to get with fellow SL folks:yes:Glad PJ was able to help you,he has been taking care of us for over two years of great ryding!

 Will do. I talked PJ's ear off with all my questions and he was very helpful.;)

Good service is always worth the trip! :2thumbs:
Glad that they were able to fix some things that never should have happened!
And... Very nice pictures!

MSF course teaches you to look ahead, through the turn. Look where you want to go and that's where you'll end up. Good write up. It would probably take us 4 hours to get to Ladson. Would be nice to be closer.

Will Some Dealers Ever Learn?

Wonder when the "let it slide by for now" type of dealers ever learn to do good workmanship the first time? It aggrevates me so much when I read about slip shod, sloppy new bike prep work. I want to get in their face and say "Bozo," the first 24 hours makes or breaks a good sale and cements or destroys the customers confidence in the dealer. In the previous 600 mile check more then 24 hours went by. But the missing, sloppy, undone workmanship didn't!

By posting it on the Forum you can bet that at least 10 or more will drop the dime on don't buy from Joe Smuck in Podunk they do slip shod prep work.

Wonder if they do the same type of work on their other manufacturers lines?

I have been hesitant to mention them by name someday I may need to use them and hope they get it together. Their pricing for service is high considering they have no one with more than a couple of months of BRP classes under their belts.:dontknow: I am planning on going there to look at the show room models for the missing fender wire holders and ask why mine does not have them.

Bad setups

Just think of how many problems you might have if it wasn't for the wealth of knowledge gained from SL . Hearing " that's normal " don't hold water anymore when you have facts and info from other forum users. This forum is the best thing that ever happened to me since purchasing my spyder and yes , I did change dealers and it was def for the best.

:agree: Just wished the one less than an hour away did not have their highly regarded tech quit a few weeks back. It is 110 mi. to the one I used but hey it is always a good day to visit Charleston but it requires my wife to follow in her car, there are only so many things to look at in any dealership.
