• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 20K with a 7K trip is hard on the Spyder

The last two days I've spent working on the Spyder getting it back in shape after a 7000+ trip and 20,000+ on the :spyder:

Once again I had a lot of blow-by in the air box. Enough that it was leaking out of it. Not as bad as I thought it would be after I opened it up though.

I had a pretty good exhaust leak too from a place that never leaked before. I got most of it stopped but it looks like I need a new gasket to fix it right. This was causing a lot of heat under the panels. :yikes:

One other thing I decided to do was take the bottom splash plates completely off to try and let some of that heat out when you're sitting at a light.

The next major thing I need to do is adjust my valves. It's not acting like it needs it but I need to check them anyway. All in all it's been a great ride and good for the long haul I would say.:doorag::spyder:

I as do many, look at your mods and longevity as a barometer of the type of product built by BRP. Thanks for posting the success of this new and unique machine.

At my 625 mile service they sealed my hindle pipe with silicone. Now, at ~2000 miles I noticed the silicone seal has broke open and I'm experiencing more heat than usual.

Thanks for making the connection in your post

As always, I'm earning a lot from your experiences.

Thank you!

Wow Lamonster 20K already that's great!

I know some people ride these all over.:doorag:

Why when I was in Sturgis some crazy guy rode 1200 miles in 17 hours to get there! :yikes:

Oh wait the crazy guy was YOU! LOL :joke:

Great report, Lamont! Like most of the people here; I know, I really appreciate all of your posts, and great reports.

Nice. Keep us posted on if you think removing these splash plates makes a noticeable difference.

lamonster, I was wondering if you've considered doing something like the Evoluzione Race Air Filter mod. I saw it on Danimal's Spyder at the Michigan Owners Event a few weeks back and it looked really nice. The breather tube gets routed right to the base of the filter so the oil gets drawn right back in to the engine. Also, it is much smaller than having the air filter box so the engine compartment is much less cluttered and I would have to believe that would really help alleviate some heat build-up under the panels. I would think about it but I'm not really a hot-rodder.

Yes it looks nice but now you're really sucking hot air. At least with the stock box it's pulling air from the front of the Spyder where the air is a little cooler.

On the 109 you gain about 5 hp by moving the intake air to the outside of the bike instead of the inside near the motor. If I was going to do a mod like this to get rid of the airbox it would be a "Cold Air" intake. You really need to pull the air outside of the Spyder where the air is much cooler. That would do more than this setup. If I got to wipe a little oil down every 6000 miles or so that's fine with me. :doorag:

Around town my temp gauge was about the same but it did feel a little cooler on me.

Where I really noticed a differance was cruising down the highway. It was 80 degrees out and I was pulling a long hill towing my trailer at about 70 mph and 90% of the time I was running at two bars. I have never ran at two bars before taking these off. :doorag:

Wish I could have told you the real temp but I'm having gaude and sending unit issues.:sour:
