2024 Spyder issues make me wonder if I should buy yet?

This is my 18th motorcycle, the last three were Spyders all before that were 2-wheelers. I am mechanically inclined and do most of my own maintenance on my cars and my bikes.

What I cannot do is re-write Can-Am's code for the head unit or fix it. I am at the mercy of Can-Am to eventually release a version with working CarPlay and hopefully fixing the connectivity issues that plague it.

Most 2024 Spyder owners have issues, it just depends on how much it bothers them. The head unit is feature incomplete and buggy. I think the majority of 2024 buyers were expecting ACP to be provided as promised, and to actually work reasonably well. For those who don't need/want ACP and can live without reliably functioning Bluetooth to the bike then the 2024s aren't too bad.

All this new computerized, this and that, Can Bus ("Controller Area Network") this and that, etc. etc. Chips and ECU's and wires here, and wires there.
It's like my old '88 R80 GS-PD compared to my '01 R1150GS, to my '19 R1250GS. The R80 is/was sort of old school, fix on the road just about anywhere. The 1150GS was just about fix on the road anywhere with just enough new technology to make it the perfect 21st century two wheeled HumVee. Then came along even way more technology to the point where you need LifeFlight service for your bike! :roflblack:
When I bought my '23 Sea2Sky, I bought the max BRP extended warranty with it as well.
However, so far so good. It's been 100% reliable.
I think that knowing the level of professionalism and experience of my dealer, and who did the initial dealer set up in their shop helped my confidence.
Any factory glitches after that will hopefully continue to be nil!

I buy the most noticeable helmet on the planet neon yellow with black spots. Every one I talk to says they see the helmet before the bike which is pearl red.

It seems when it comes to Spyder owners, many are not two-wheeled veterans?
And even more are not gear-headed savvy, not even a little?

I used to hang with a group friends that all had motorcycles, and we regularly rode together. The "leader" of the group owned a Yamaha shop, so I got a great deal on a Yamaha Seca 550 that was a few model years old, but still in the shipping crate when I bought it. That was my first motorcycle. I sold the Yamaha when I moved out of S. California, and that was almost 30 years ago. So my Spyder is the first motorcycle I've owned in almost 30 years.

As for gear head status, I was a VW air cooled owner while I lived in California, first a Type 3 Fastback, then a Type 2 Kombi, and my final VW was a 1967 VW Westfalia Poptop Camper van. I built and installed a new engine for the camper, upgrading it from the original 1500cc engine to a 1641cc engine with dual carbs, a balanced crankshaft, a mild cam, and an oversized oil pump. So I do know my way around a toolbox, even if most of my tools just sit in the garage gathering dust these days.

Well, except those tools required to keep my POS John Deere lawn tractor running so the neighbors don't complain about the length of the grass in my yard! :cus:

It would be nice if CAN-AM would fix the Apple Carplay issue, but I'm not holding my breath, instead I'm out riding. :f_spider:

As of 4-15-2024 Here is what I have to say about my 2024 spyder.
You know the old saying, don't buy a vehicle built on a Monday or Friday; well, it's hard to know these days, but if the vin number goes as normal on Can Am, then mine was the 2682th Spyder built.
Mine has the normal problems like the others, NO ACP, but that looks like all of them have that issue; my heated seat plugs were flip flopped; and my passenger heated grips don't work. I fixed the heated seat myself; the dealer said bring it in, but with what I have read here, I want to wait until they get their act together about this upgrade firmware. I did have issues with my iPhone BT connection, and with connecting to wifi; but it's better now, sometimes it's just slow to connect to my wifi.

As for the Spyder RT itself, mechanically it's fine, and the dash itself works fine, everything is logically put where it should be, and it all works OK, except for the ACP.

I have not done any updates, so it's like it was from the factory. I can get my cardo to pair with the Spyder; and get my iPhone to pair too. One thing I did read in the manual is to have your BT items ON and unlocked before you turn on the Spyder.

I found this out when placing a call, I had to place a phone call and the Spyder was already running, so the cardo would not pair to the Spyder; luckily, I had also paired the cardo to my iPhone and I could place the call, and guess what, it showed my phone call on the screen!

As of 4-15-2024 the dealer said bring it in, but with what I have read here, I want to wait until they get there act together about this upgrade firmware.

I have a 2022 RT Limited that has left me stuck on 6 different occasions with a "transmission fault".
The Spyder is in the shop right now, hoping they can figure out the issue.
I was thinking of just trading it in for a 2024, but I decided to wait until at least 2025 because of my negative experience with Can-Am.
Really disappointed.

Much, if not most, of what has been said by previous posters is good information and valid. There is always a risk, however large or small, that a product will have issues. It happens. I will say I’ve owned four Spyders since 2010. In that time I’ve had a number of needed repairs. No matter where I was in the country, they were always handled by the respective service folks with competence and due diligence. As the model years progressed, any issues diminished to the point, in my case, of there being no issues of importance or significance. In 14 years, again 4 Spyders, collectively Ive ridden over 190K miles in all kinds of weather, altitude, etc., and wouldn’t change a thing.

If you want one, just buy it! Get the extended warranty and ride the heck out of it! As far I can see if you're not a techy who wants to keep up with the world while you ride and stay connected, you'll be fine! BRP connect is the white elephant in the room that they are trying to fix on the fly - as many companies are now doing to us, we are their R+D, and have been for years! I have friends who always want to ride under a warranty and always trade when it runs out!! Now if you are good friends with one of those type of people, you're in good luck if they kept their ride in good shape, you know what issues it's had and how they drove it and kept it, may save you some big coin! I have been doing that with my sleds for a few years, since their price went through the roof, and when I retired! Good Luck trying to figure what your next step is! :2thumbs: Be safe!!!

I have a 2024 Spyder RTL that I bought 6 February, I have had it home for a total of a week and it has been at the dealership since for not going into reverse.

After fighting with customer service many times they have not been able to fix it.

My dealer has complained to can-am corporate and they have a replacement for me Thursday. The dealer has swapped it out for me not can-am. The dealer is going to fight it out with BRP.

But this is not typical of Spyders, the dealer has never seen anything like this before.

Been researching Spyders for years. Finally decided to pull the trigger this weekend. Went to the Can Am Experience and drove an S2S with the wife on. She loved it. I loved the feeling of riding again (been about 5 years since I sold my motorcycles). I wanted the silver but, they only had the flat black in stock. Decided that was the one.

Had them draw up the paperwork, only when I looked at the final price and thinking of what I needed to add to it in order to do some cross-country trips; back rest for RTL; arm rest for passengers; phone mounts; USB ports; TPM; belt tensioner; etc. I decided to think about it over the weekend. Interest rates are high; well, everything is high.

I am thinking I should wait until Can Am gets GPS, Android auto, and TPM (Y'all are probably laughing at that part!) It is hard for me to justify $35k and have to use my phone to navigate. Can Am guy actually told me to just use my phone. I have an Android, so he mentioned that Can Am was in negotiations with Google.

I am sad, as I had trips planned for this year. Who knows, maybe they will offer 0% financing or some other nice incentive to pull me back in. I think this is the first time in my life I have gone to a powersports dealer to buy a toy and left without one. We'll see how long I can hold out.

i admit , fairly new , one month and 800 miles is all I can talk about . 2024 F3-S runs like a top. No problems at this time . NOTE : have not tried to add ACP since I don't need it BUT , just for kicks , I synced my I phone via wi-fi with no problems .

Even if it had built in GPS, I'd probably still use my Garmin. I've tried using other built-in GPS's and they're always lacking. The Garmin has gone bike to bike with me and never lets me down. (And unlike the phone, it's waterproof, doesn't need a cell signal, and works well with gloves.) :thumbup: The bike is the important thing. Get the other gizmos from other places that specialize in them.

Look at used. There are some awesome deals out there. People have installed all the bells and whistles already. Miles don't hurt the Spyder if it has been taken care of. You get in for less money and the resale will be closer to what you paid if you should decide to move on.

In my opinion, you don't want built in GPS. You'll pay way too much for it. Probably have to pay again to keep it current. And your phone will do a better job. Who knows when, or if, BRP will get the audio you want, and there are other work-a-rounds for that. Same for the TPM feature. And who knows. The used one you get might have some or all of this already done for you. If not, you can use some of the money saved to get the upgrades you're looking for.

Expand the box and more things will fit into it.

You are all correct about built in GPS. I guess my overall point is I shouldn't have to look at 2 screens on a vehicle that cost this much. Android auto and Apple Car play should have had the bugs worked out and implemented a while ago. Can Am rep said it was Google and Apple's fault for it being a safety issue. I didn't tell him that the Honda Goldwing has it. Anyway...I am in negotiations to get one. Price is pretty good. Just trying to get a good interest rate.

They know this. They just can't help telling stories. Pair your phone with your helmet radio and you won't have to look at 2 screens much at all. But I assume you already know this. Get past the mental and you'll be gloriously happy!

I am currently in negotiations to get a new 2024 Sea to Sky Spyder, but I am seeing lots of issues with them on these forums, which really has me thinking that I should wait, as the product seems to be really flawed. Does anyone have one that is actually working properly? Or maybe the ones who have them working properly are happy and riding, so they can’t be bothered to write a note about it? It always seems to just be the people having issues that post, but there seems to be so many of them, and multiple people with the same issues that makes me think this is not a good product and that it was released way before it should have been.

So please, DON'T buy a Spyder.
With your initial attitude, I'm sure any small issue will just prove you were right to begin with, and you won't be happy. It's called confirmation bias. Better you should buy a vehicle that excites you.

Although, to be frank, you're more correct that the people with properly working Spyders are too busy riding them to post.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong. I'm sure someone on this forum will disagree with me.
