• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2024 RT wont shift into reverse - anyone else? Any ideas/fixes

Anyone else having issues with their 2024 not consistently shifting into Reverse?

Happened multiple times now - no rhyme/reason or reproducible.

Somewhat related, I had an experience where bike seemed to shift from 1st to 2nd, but display didn't change (was going slow so maybe dreaming!).

But reverse problem happening multiple days/times. Sometimes, turn bike off/on seems to help.

Going to dealer in a week - but anything I can help guide them helps. I'm thinking the actuator/switch is bad.

Thanks, Martin

If you type the word 'Reverse' into the Search field up towards the Top Right of the screen, then tick the 'Search Titles Only' box in the drop-down list that'll appear below it before submitting the Search, you'll get a whole heap of info on this, amongst a few other things, but the thread titles will help - bearing in mind that there's really been very little changes to the RT's since the last major update in 2020 (what with all the issues people are having with the most recent model, I just cannot bring myself to call them 'upgrades' :sour: ) Your thoughts on the actuator might not be far off the mark!

It's well worth your while having a read thru at least some of them, even if the years aren't exactly the same!

Good Luck!

Thanks - I did search first... Luckily (?!?) I was on the road just now when reverse failed at the start of the ride - THEN - it would not auto-downshift.

Passed by dealer and showed them the problem while I wait for my service appt next week. Murphy's law - restarted the bike at dealer - reverse AND auto-downshift worked again.

At least I can manually downshift! Gremlins - that damn Guardian Bell sleeping on the job!

My 2024 did that, and long story short, I bought the Spyder in Feb, and it is still at the dealer fighting with Can-Am. The dealer replaced it with another 2024. BUDS will not connect with it.

BUDS shows the Parking Brake is on when it is not; so BRP gave them a work around code, but they are still having problems with it. BRP doesn't even know what is wrong with it!

I have the same issue with my 2024 Sea to Sky, but then again, I have a ton of issues with this bike. My 2021 S2S was pretty much perfect shy of 6th gear issues around the 28,000 mile mark.

This one:

  • Reverse malfunctions daily
  • electrical buzzing noise in dash
  • sounds like marbles in the crank case
  • hard shifts into 6th and double shifts into 4th
  • shudders on first gear from a dead stop.
  • ACP can't work without helmet comms. dumbest thing ever

The bike is indefinitely at the dealer now until they either replace or fix it, but I have well over $3k in SlingMods gear on the bike. Pretty much everything you can get for the thing I have.

I was calling BRP customer service 10 to 15 times at least and was at the dealer everyday. The dealership was good enough to replace it as a loss to them and they are still fighting with BRP to get my first Spyder fixed. Squeaky wheel gets the oil.

Lol...Dunno but when I was growing up 6 decades ago, "Squeaky wheel gets the grease" Lol... referring to Far Eastern slang term of "Fragrant grease"

All joking aside, the issues with the 2024 RT models, and the screen issues across several BRP product lines, as well as slow sales of the watercraft and ATB's, would make any prospective buyer think twice. From my point of view, the BRP weak attempt at making good with the (very) limited $500 incentive and the release of the (ahem, fixed - sort of!) ACP, just show that BRP is trying, but really struggling.

If you have stock in the company, I would get rid of it, 'cos this will be a bad year for BRP. Or at least convert it to put options for when it crashes.

Dealer followup for my reverse/downshift issue...

Dealer can't find any codes on my 2024 S2S that intermittently won't go into reverse and sometimes won't even downshift automatically. Test drives all worked fine for them... So I'll keep riding and when it happens again, escalate.

Problems that go away will always come back...

At least I can install my H&R sway bar and Wilbers shocks this weekend!

Mine did the exact same thing on top of Mount Washington Wednesday morning! Naturally, after that, I parked the Spyder nose down close to a huge stone...

The odd part was that when I pressed the reverse button, the engine RPM would increase slightly, like a small blip of the throttle – it was subtle but noticeable. I have an appointment on Wednesday, but I'm not expecting any positive results since the Spyder's stupid reverse is working perfectly now.

I have the exact same problems with my 2024 RT. Taking it to the shop today

Is anyone having these problems with an F3. From all the posts it appears that all posts are from an S2S or RT. Does not make sense or am I reading this wrong.

That'll be because this particular thread is in the RT section, and it's title is '2024 RT won't shift into reverse...', so it's probably to be expected that it discusses this problem with respect to RT's. ;)

However, if you do a bit of searching, there are other threads on the Forum that discuss this same issue specifically about the F3's in the F3 sections (check out the 'Similar Threads' listed at the bottom of the page, my list shows one of them, 3rd down - 'No Reverse; Fault Codes: P0720 & P0740 - anyone else? Fixes?') ; and there are some that discuss this issue generally about Spyders in the General Discussion sections; I think there might even be some that discuss this issue regarding Spyders in the Shop Talk sections and even for Spyders with 1330 motors in the 1330 specific area too! :sneaky:

But really, apart from some people not bothering to search first and see what existing threads are already on the boards instead of just starting yet another thread on the same subject, it doesn't really matter all that much or make all that much difference - if your Spyder has a 1330 motor and it isn't always shifting into reverse, then the problems causing this and the methods of resolving it are pretty likely going to be basically the same, since all of the driveline and controls are effectively shared across all of the Spyder platforms regardless of the Spyder model, as it's really only the frame & bodywork that differs between models, and those have nothing to do with your Spyder not shifting into reverse.
