While riding my new 2022 RTL, I’ve noticed that the front handgrips are not heating evenly. I can clearly tell that while on the low setting, the right grip is a little hotter than the left grip. The right is warm enough that I’m almost to the point of letting go, and the left is just right. I tried the high setting this morning, and they both got to that point where I almost want to let go. So it’s like the right grip is malfunctioning. Could there be a pinched wire or something? I read one other person here had a similar issue on theirs. I will bring it to the dealerships attention today and will probably have to schedule it for service as a warranty issue. I will let you know how it shakes out.

There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Ok it’s confirmed now. I went to work this morning with the front heated grips on low. When I got to work I used a FLIR IR camera. It showed 108* on the left, and 120* on the right with the Spyder still running. I aligned the crosshairs of the camera on the hottest point on each grip. I will share this info with the dealership before my appointment for this issue under warranty. I have already expressed my concern that the dealership contact CanAm first to ask what the specs should be. I don’t want to end up paying a shop labor fee. In the past, I had an Indian Motorcycle dealership look at my rear air shock for air leaking over a period of time, what I considered a warranty issue. They confirmed my issue but said it was within spec, so I had to pay the labor to check it out. I had to live and learn the hard way on that one. Pure BS.

When I had my Harley freewheeler the throttle was always warmer than the left side. The Harley forum said that was normal because the left side grip was on metal and the right side was on plastic .The heat transfer was different from the metal and the plastic. Not sure if that is going on with your heated grips.
My throttle grip is hotter than the left side on the Can am RT but not that noticeable.

I don't think they do Mike - well, they don't here in Oz anyway, but it IS Harley D....
It's more that the RH Side grip (with the heating element embedded in it) is mounted onto the plastic sleeve that allows the throttle to rotate; while the LH Side grip (with the heating element embedded in it) mounts directly onto the handlebar end. :thumbup:
There's absobloominlutely NOTHING they can do about it at any service - it's simply that there's more heat reflected from the metal than there is lost to the air gap via the platic spacer that lets the throttle work! And that's not likely to change until someone discovers how to avoid or change the fundamental laws of physics as we know them.....

My ‘21 RTL is the same way… the given explanation is very logical and one would think this would be an inherent factor in all heated grips. Sometimes the one grip would get so hot that I had to turn them off.
However, I do wonder why my Gold Wing 1800 had equal heat in the grips.
No matter… I bought a pair of wind-proof, battery operated, electric gloves that keep the hands and fingers warm and cozy at whatever temp I select for the cold conditions.

It's easy enough to do, simply mount the LH Grip on a similar placcy tube on the RH, Z with a tiny air gap between the tube & handle bars...
Sure, it'll cost a bit more to do that, but it's really only a few cents per unit and there's no need to make it something that WILL allow the LH grip rotate like the RH Grip can! Besides, it can be a dummy, it doesn't actually hafta DO anything but make the LH heated grip element work at the same rate as the RH grips.... And no-one complains about their Gold Wing costing too much, do they now?!? :banghead:
