• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2020 Top Box Will Not Remain Open - any solutions?

It's not just that, so many times people don't look at the date on the posts and drag old stuff out and answer questions that where asked years before!! Or want to add their problems on the pile, instead of making their own post. That's what makes the world go around, I guess!!:coffee: I've made that mistake before:mad:

FWIW, I just installed the top case gas shock from the link in post #35 on my 2020 RTL; works fine and was an easy install. I did have to tighten the mounting bracket where the lower end is attached, but had no problems otherwise.

I may not be the least expensive solution, but is cheaper than a dealer install and I didn't have to deal with down time.

Thanks!

I need a new Trunk strut as the old one won't hold lid open. The Can AM part is $79.95. Is there a cheaper place to get one?
Thank you for your help,
Gridley

I believe that several of the Spyderlovers.com sponsors sell heavy duty struts.

A couple of searches found "heavy duty" replacement struts/shocks for under US $40.

I just replaced mine. I ordered it from Lamonster Garage. Excellent service, the right part, along with instructions, arrived all in a few short days. (And for far less than $79.95)

I made my own from a pattern that " safecracker " sent me..... a used a piece of 1/2in. plywood .... drilled a hole in it. and put the bolt that is used in the hinge on the other side..... Yes it's manual, But it will work FOREVER ....

A $1.98 rubber door stopper works quite well. Windy days are not a problem.

You have to open the rear trunk sometime, and you can't always wait for a sunny day. :D

:roflblack: I'm really glad you are concerned for the safety of my plywood ....... You are one of the reasons that make this forum a fantastic resource for all us morons here ..... have a great day .....Mike

Hi. My dealer got me new heavy duty struts for my top box and seat on my 2020RTL from show chrome. They work great.
I don't have part numbers etc as junked packaging. Real easy installation instructions also. Cost was about $60.00 Canadian taxes incl.

It looks like Lamonster Garage carries both of the Show Chrome struts you mentioned.

The link to the Lamonster website is in the upper right corner of this web page.
