• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2015 Side Case Strengthener Kit

Shims Arrived

The shims arrived. I tried just holding them in place and as luck would have it, it seems one is not enough and two are too many. Two of them are too thick, leaving the new plate resting totally on the shims. Just putting one shim in there left the new plate resting totally on the plastic tabs and the shim rattling around freely. Tried all four locations with the same result.

I measured the powder-coated shim thickness at 0.053" give or take. With one shim in there, I used feeler gauges to estimate the remaining gap at 0.036" or total gap with no shims of 0.089". I suspect gently torquing down on the nuts to pull the plate in a little would decrease that gap slightly. I measured the depth of your protrusion on the original backplate with milled ends and got a protrusion depth of about 0.075". If the protrusion length had fit in between my plastic tabs, as it did on yours, that depth would have worked out pretty close. Don't know if it would have fit perfectly but pretty close. I'm sure that's exactly the way you designed it and intended it to work. I think the bike-to-bike variability is back to haunt you. Short of supplying a range of shims with each kit to allow each hinge plate to be custom fit, I'm not sure how you can get this to work for all. Or just draw the plate up gently against the plastic tabs and leave the gap alone. I defer to the expert.

Yes. we have started including 4 bare shims in the kits now to compensate for that. I was afraid that might be the case and went ahead and added them. We will send you 8 bare ones. Two together will be about .088", a little over .010" difference. I am thinking .010" gap would allow a slight flex but not enough to break the plastic. I think that since the back is rigid putting 2 bare shims in would give you a little flex, which would not be a bad thing. The bare ones are .044". Plastic will not break from that flex.
What I will include in the kits from here on are:
8 fully powder coated
8 completely bare

That should cover every one of them. And if need be, they can have us send them extra shims. It's only $1 in postage. I'll get yours in the mail tomorrow. Thanks for the info!

OK, I think we have the shims dialed in! They are going to be color-coded and we be as follows:

Black Powder coat - .0485
Red Paint - .0480
Yellow Paint - .0330

We will include 8 black, 4 red, and 4 yellow in each kit.

Gypsy, I will send you 4 red and 4 yellow. That should get you really close. Working in these dimensions is no big deal, I do it all the time in automotive repair.

:clap::bowdown::2thumbs:

The video was the final piece of the puzzle!! :thumbup:
I'll start on my bike tonight, and report tomorrow!

Man a little music in the background would make the job go a lot faster...:thumbup::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

Looks great!!

Last time I put music in a video I got slammed..... Besides, this will help our slower cousins concentrate while they are reading!:yikes:

Actually, this is a piece of cake to install. the hardest part is getting the spring brackets adjusted right. After that it is just a quick assembly.

Yes!! :yes::yes::yes:

Sorry... we've been busy around the house this weekend, and I forgot to post about it... :opps:
My shims weren't color coordinated, but it only took a set of dial calipers to figure out the sizes that I needed. :thumbup:

Doc, Please PM me your PayPal info... Even though I was a guinea pig for these; I want to pay you for them... THEY ARE THAT GOOD!! :2thumbs: :firstplace::firstplace::firstplace::firstplace::firstplace::firstplace:
