• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2015 RT S / 2016 RT L differences

My dealer has a new 2016 RT Limited and a new 2015 RT Special (the one with the plum coloured seat) on the floor.

The 2016 RT-L is $42k Aussie on the road, and the 2015 RT Special is now reduced to $35k Aussie on the road. The sales guy claims there is no difference between the 2 apart from things like wheels, Garmin Zumo and the luggage for the front on the 2016 RT-L.

If that is the case, I'd like to go with the 2015 RT Special for obvious reasons. (It will cover the cost of seat, boards, screen, Garmin and a couple of other farkles)

Any reason I shouldn't go with the 2015 RT Special model that anyone is aware of?

Pete

Go with the 2015 and save your money.Nice to have the gps and luggage but saving 7000 bucks is much better. What ever you buy ride safe and enjoy.

Since the differences between the Limited, and the "S" are largely cosmetic; it comes down to what you like the most. :D
I like shiny chrome; not the brushed stuff...
And chrome wheels look much nice, than do black ones to me!

But everybody has their own sense of style: let yours make the decision!
Happy Shopping!

The Special will also have the short windshield, but that can be replaced if you don't like it.
I would go with the Special and save the $

To each his own! I think the chrome is ugly, so I went with the RT-S! Bought the Garmin and a heated seat. Perfect bike!

Post #7 has a bit of extra detail. A hard decision to make--unless it comes down to saving some big bucks.

I only bought one "top of the line," and that was 2010 when they introduced the RT. I bought a RTS Premier. Now--that is a run of the mill RT.

I would consider the small items on the 16 before deciding. The 16 should not have the delayed start / mode wait time. The 16 should be all USB and no more funky special audio cables. The 16 should have no gearbox position sensor issue to be resolved. The 16 should have the most updated DESS module. Some of the options you are considering come with the 16. Maybe work a better price on the 16 and then decide.

Really?
It was my understanding that any Spyder with the multi-color screen required a wait time.
I may be wrong about this.

I think you're right. The sales guy started the F3 I was demoing and then went to the 2016 RT. I had time to put my jacket, helmet and gloves on, fiddle with all the controls on the F3 for a couple of minutes and looked over to see him still waiting. Then he hit the starter and away we went, albeit with me "wenting" all over the road :yikes:

Thanks PMK

From what I saw, it certainly still has a significant wait time.

Great....thanks

Great....thanks
The 16 should have the most updated DESS module.
Unfortunately, I see a DESS error has just been reported by a 2016 owner.
Some of the options you are considering come with the 16.
Maybe a tall screen, but I still need a Daylong or Ultimate seat, Seal floorboards, extended brake etc, which adds some $3k to my purchase price for the 2016.
Maybe work a better price on the 16 and then decide.

Thanks for all that PMK...that's invaluable. It looks the only things to consider are the USB connections, the gearbox position sensor and the GPS. The gearbox position sensor causes issues with downshifting, I assume?

It's still hard to justify $7k more expensive though.....although, as Bob says, the 2015 Special DOESN'T HAVE AS MUCH CHROME

I am assuming the 2017 will be released soon, so I will indeed work on a better price for the 2016, although initial efforts were unsuccessful.:banghead:

Unless $7K doesn't register in your life, then I think the less expensive options is a far better value.

Thanks PMK

Well that's interesting about the "no waiting", PMK. Thanks.

It was definitely a 2016 limited (blue) and he definitely was looking at the screen and waited for at least a minute before he climbed on board to go. Maybe he was simply working out whether he should put some gas in it as it was running on reserve when I took it out later.

So I can add the windshield support and the quick start routine to the gearbox position sensor and Garmin as the major differences for going with a 2016.....the list is gradually growing, but the 2015 is still in front from a value perspective.

If you are interested in the RT Limited, there should be some leftover 2015s for a great price around somewhere before you settle for something you might not want. I got my 2015 RT Limited as a leftover in November of last year for what I think was a good price and have been very happy with it and all of the extras that came with it and did not think i would need anything else......then came the new sway bar, the bumper skid with lights and the extra rear lights and the LED American Flag.. In other words get what your really want customize it the way you want, or not, make it yours and enjoy the ride.

Good Luck on whatever you decide, you really can't go wrong..........

Thanks to All

I understand where you live may make things a bit tough with limited availability, your desire to obtain pinnacle value is understood also. I just have a difficult time seeing the big savings on the leftover 2015 as many people here tended to lean towards the 2015 SS was a bit overpriced for getting special color scheme and a tiny windscreen that some replaced with a taller one.

Is there a way to search the inventory of new Spyders where you live, or could you contact all the dealers and maybe have the bike shipped if needed?

Thanks PMK.....money saving is not "in the lead" as much as reliability and fit, as you can be a "long way from anything" out here and don't want to be stranded if you can avoid it.

I would like to support my local dealer for purchase and service as they have really done well so far, so I'll go with their stock and recommendations (within reason, of course :) ), even if it costs a little more. I have looked around at other new Spyders in Oz, and there are only a few.

Thanks to all the help I have received on this forum, and a couple of confirmation emails I have received from BRP Customer Care, I will go ahead with the Spyder purchase, albeit after I spend the weekend (dealer is closed), deciding between the 2016 F3 (more legroom, better passenger fit, and to my eye, better looking than the RT, especially in the red :) etc etc ), and the 2015 RT S Special (better element protection, less passenger room (with the "tall" seat), a console and features fairly similar to the Victory Vision etc etc).

Thanks again for everyone's help. This is a very welcoming forum.
