2014 vs 2015 and miles

Hi all. I posted for the first time a couple weeks ago and everyone responded wonderfully! Thank you. Im still searching for a Spyder but Im not in a rush since its winter in the Northeast. Im looking for a fair deal for a nice machine. So I have another question for you guys...

Right now, Im looking at either a 2014 or 2015 (both RS-S, SE5, 998ccs) and both are about the same price. The 2015 has a little over 12,000 miles on it and the 2014 has only 1500. Does it matter? How long can these things go? Should I let the miles of the 2015 sway my decision either way? Any insight would be great! Thanks a million!

Lets see....

If price condition and mods/farkles are the same... go for the lower miles. Depending on the price and other add ons..extended warranty etc go for the one with the most extras..:thumbup: farkeling is extremely contagious and expensiveso if you can get some in the deal you will save bundle....:roflblack:

The other thing is the colors are different. How hard is it to remove the body panels and have them painted at a body shop if I wanted to alter the color of the bike?

I'm with Chupaca, go for the lo-miler. But, that is just my opinion and always has been.

Very easy once you have done it & learned how.

Re: have them painted at a body shop

Take a photo of a Spyder to the local body shop & ask. Prices for this type of work vary tremendously.

It was still available in the RSS & ST's until they stopped selling them to concentrate on the F3's. :thumbup:

And what does it mean in your signature "2013 RTS-SM5 burned up with 13,200 miles in 13 weeks?" What happened??

2014 vs 2015

Go for the 2015 with extended warranty. The RS's are mostly bullet proof EXCEPT for those SE transmissions. Have a dealer hook it up on Buds to check that all updates and service bulletins have been completed. Also look at the time spent in each RPM range, The SE's are great IF they have been run properly above their lock up RPM of ~3500. This would be my only major concern in the purchase of a used bike.

Have 51,500 currently on mine and no issues other than replacement of the ignition security module and a new drive belt @ 49,000 miles. Love it and would do it all again.

A hard decision for sure. Extended warranty is good.

Most of the RS and RSS were pretty much bullet proof. You should get way over 100,000 if serviced regularly.

10,000 extra miles or so--should not be an issue. Machines can end up with mechanical problems--if sitting around un-run and without annual servicing at least. :thumbup:

One of the few fires that happened on the 2013 RT machines. That played out with heat remediation panels offered as a fix for that year's Spyder. Lots of controversy over that situation.
