2014 RT SE6 Oil Change Itervals

I cannot remember the recommended milage between oil changes by the manufacture and I don't have the manual right now. Can I trouble some one to look this up for me?

Thanks

A lot...

might consider lowering that a bit. most oils are far from 100% after 4-5,000 miles...:dontknow:

I changed and had analyzed at 4500 last year and the oil (BRP semi-dino 5x40) had sheared to 20 wt. No way would I ever go 9300 miles. Mine is a '14 RTSE6.

I'd love to see a lab test done by one you folks who run your oil anywhere near the limits specified by BRP, if for no other reason than to show us doubting Thomas's that its feasible. Meanwhile I change mine at 4000 or less depending on the oil used.

Clutch cover screw replaced?

Noticed in your list of farkles and Mods the "clutch cover screw replaced". I am seeing a little oil on the right side below the clutch housing I believe on our 2015 RT-S. It appears to come from a small set screw looking hole in the bottom of the case. Not a big amount, but curious as to your fix. Thanks!

I hear what most are saying about oil breakdown/shearing and replacing the oil in their Spyders at about half the mileage BRP specifies, BUT I can't help wonder why BRP would specify a 9300 mile oil change interval and warrant the 1330 motor for 4-5 years...kinda risky, no?

Good point. Are there any other motorcycle manufacturers
that specify that kind of interval? I may be wrong, but I don't think any of the major bike manufacturers which share motor oil with the gears, call for long periods like that. Maybe they do, as I'm not up to date on the newer products.

I've long been interested in oils and read a lot of the BITOG motorcycle threads and it seems that the majority of regulars there use a 2000-3000 oil change interval, no matter whether its dino or synthetic.

I suspect you could run any motorcycle oil for 50K or more at 9K oil changes and not have a motor related problem, and there are several on this forum that have. But not many of us put that kind of mileage on during warranty. And long term use of the 1330 is still in its early days.

On the other hand, a shorter oil change period, like on pre-14's, provided a good income for the dealers so it would seem BRP would have shortened the period for the 1330 for that reason alone.

Who know? Gives us something to speculate about. :D

They changed the service interval because they heard the user community complain so much about the high maintaince cost of the spyders. This was BRPs attempt at responding to that complaint.

I too will stick to 5k or less or annual whichever is less and use full Synthetic Rotella T6. My first service will go in at about 2500 and will be the only one Mancuso will do.

Honda Gold Wing, 8,000 miles between oil changes. And that's with Dino oil. Tom :spyder:

Thank everyone for the input. I am heading out on a trip and currently have 2000+ miles on the oil since my last oil change so I was trying to determine if I needed to change prematurely or not. I will be putting on about 2000 miles on my trip so I will change when I get back. That will put me at around 5000 miles max which will be plenty safe.

I had a 2006 Triumph Rocket the oil change interval was 10,000 miles using full synthetic Mobil 1 4t oil.

Could be the reason, but if I remember correctly the oil change interval on the 998 motor was 3000 miles, so BRP could have gone to a 5-6000 mile oil change interval on the 1330 and still perhaps quieted some of the complaints. But, they went to a 9300 mile oil change interval and I suspect they did so after rigorous testing.

I'm not advocating a particular oil change interval, just wondering why BRP chose 9300 miles. Don't believe they would put the 1330 in jeopardy just to quiet some complaints.
