• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. 2014 RT NEED HELP SHIFTING PROBLEM - dash display

I have a 2014 RT Limited with roughly 880 miles on it. Thishas the SE6 transmission and when I run through the gears periodically goingfrom 4[SUP]th[/SUP] to 5[SUP]th[/SUP] the in dash display will read “E” asopposed to “5” momentarily before displaying “5”. This morning running throughthe gears shifting from 4[SUP]th[/SUP] to 5[SUP]th[/SUP] it displayed “E” for alonger period of time and would not allow me to go to 6[SUP]th[/SUP] until thedisplay showed 5[SUP]th[/SUP]. This happens randomly and about one time duringmy rides. I am not getting an error message yet but I have heard on this sitethere is a gear selector sensor that may be creating this situation. Has anyonerun across this? If it is the sensor can it be adjusted or does it need to bereplaced?

I am new to this site but I have gathered a lot ofinformation so far, thanks in advance for any insight you may have.

Your gear position sensor may have gone a bit wonky...
It's time to let the dealer take a peek at it!
Good Luck; please let us know what they find!

I get the E occasionally dropping down thru second to first while rolling to a stop. I have a manual transmission though and I can feel the correct gear even if the display is slow updating.

Shifting..!!

that new transmission shift much smoother from what I hear. Because of that one may be a bit to ginger like when making the shift. Were it the sm6 I would say kick it into gear for a more solid shift. In your case you could hold the tap a bit to keep the actuator pressure on longer. This may be a adjustment or sensor problem but can also just need breaking in...jmo...

I saw that on mine a while back. It only displayed the "E" for a second. It was such a short period of time I questioned myself if that is what I actualy saw. Guess I'll keep an eye on it now.

Me to

I have a 2014 RTL SE6 with 3,500 miles on it and I have had the same "E" message when upshifting, but it disappeared without issue.:dontknow:

I never get any "E's" on my 2013 RT. However when I rode a 2014 RT I noticed that it had an "economy mode", that you can set on or off. Dealer told me that the purpose of that is to teach you when to shift. Not knowing how to use it, at that time, I turned it off for the time that I had the 2014 to ride.

I would turn off the economy mode temporarily, and see if the E's go away. If they do, then you know where they are coming from. I now know with the ECO modes gives you a green arrow when the Nanny thinks you should upshift. But it also does something else.

Here's all the manual says about that (on page 31)....
The ECO (fuel economy mode) setting reduces fuel consumption by limiting throttle response and maximum throttle opening to maintain an optimal cruising setting.

This seems logical to me that the "E" may have something to do with the ECO mode, but I'm just guessing and could be entirely off base on this :opps:. If so, I'm sure Bob Denman will tell me so. ;)

Ok I drove home this evening and was more deliberate with the shifting and I did not experience a "E" (thank you Chupaca).

Robmorg - I do not use the ECO mode

White Lightening - dadof4: When I do get the "E" it is pretty quick before it shows "5"

I have a schedule to bring my RT in to have a wire plumb for heating gear and will have the dealer check this as well and will let you guys know what if anything they come up with.

Thanks to all, you guys are what this site so Great!
