• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2014 RT Limited Steering slack

Hello,
My wife, as of 4/26/17 is the proud owner of a 2014 RT Limited. So we both joined Spyderlovers.com.
She bought it from a good friend and we are proud to own it.

We are planning on taking it down to get it completely serviced so we know it is in tip top shape.
I have a question.

I noticed the steering seems to have some slack in it. When it is parked, the handlebars will move back and forth as if they are loose.
Does this look right? See video below.

Thanks for your advice
Ron

:welcome:&:congrats: How many miles are on it? Warranty? If this was my spyder I would be trying to look at the input shaft of the steering unit while moving the handlebars to find where the problem is. If you have a warranty then find a dealer with a good service department & let them handle it. Good Luck!

The bike has about 12,000 miles on it. I am just hoping it is safe to ride!

Interesting. ...

Welcome to the spyder world and this site. As I see the video seems you will be alright ryding but make mention to the shop about it. Don't ryde that model and may be normal for it. congrats on the new ryde...

RT Steering

Its normal- relax and ride the SPYDER

Just thought I'd add my three cents (additional penny added for inflation). I have a 2012 Can Am Spyder RT-SE5. When the bike is simply sitting, there is a fraction of free play with the handlebar. I asked my own dealership about it, as I'd not experienced such play on any of the Gold Wings or Harleys. I was told by the dealer's service manager that this was normal for the Spyder. Now with just over 23,000 miles.

You should have that checked out. Our 2014 RT had some play in the steering and I was thinking the DPS unit since the tie rods were all tight. Took it to the dealer and found that the steering nut had loosened slightly. Don't take it for granted that it is normal. have it checked out.
And.....
:welcome::congrats:on the new ryde. We are closely approaching 40k on ours and having a blast.

Its Normal

All three of my RT's have had the play in them while sitting still. Have no noticeable issue with steering. Once aligned, rides on a rail.

I have commented on this a few times. I helped BRP do demo rides at dealers last year and rode several new RTs.
I noticed that all the 2014 and 2015 RT's I rode had a lot more play in the steering than my 2011 RT does.
Obviously some change was made in 2014?

Bob
