There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 2014 RT issue

Highway miles seems to trash the center of the rear tire quickly. 8000 miles was about the best I could get on my 2010rt, and I prefer back roads even if the highway gets me there twice as fast. I played with tire pressure and didn't get any better or noticable results. Guess we have to accept it as the cost of riding. I do hate changing the tires out before a big road trip just becuase they won't make it all the way back home. And I think getting caught in hard rain 500 miles from home on worn out tires doesn't up the fun factor at all.

Mike... We're talking about 15" front tires... There's not a lot out there. :gaah:

Federal has one that'll fit; Maybe it's Guzzi, who's got one... :dontknow:
Had to get the Federals off the front of my 2014. Way to stiff! Finally stopped in Jacksonville, Fl at jacksonville Powersports. Talked it over with Travis, their service mgr about the problems with out of round Kenda's. He suggested to try a different method. Take a pair of new Kenda's and the wheels to a local tire shop that "roll balances tires". They mount the tires and then balance them while the tires are loaded against a spinning drum. This way they can see how the tires will do once mounted on the bike, without guessing. If one of the new tires are defective, you know it before ever riding on it. This simplifies the dealer claiming a warrenty, as the tire still has its tags on, and never touched the ground. They also check the weels for trueness and out of round. Roll balanced tires are rated and matched by number with a rating of 15-19 being acceptable. 25 or over you will have tire problems. Believe it or not the 2 new roll balanced Kenda 15" fronts came in with a 4 and 5!! As close a good match as is possible. Once mounted on the RTL, my god what a difference! They track and roll smooooth, and handle great. The additional $50 for roll match balancing was worth every penny! Travis was right, it works, and you see what you are getting before putting them on the bike. If the new tire is not good, you can have the dealer replace it with another right then. By the way, if you try the available 175/55R15 car tires out there, get ready to space your fender mounts inward, to clear the extra width, as they will NOT clear the 2013-2014 fenders stock.

Not a Tire Issue But....

I have noticed that chip seal (tar & chip) pavement does wear out motorcycle tires quicker than blacktopped roads. Most of our back roads here in Northwestern Ohio are tar & chip paved and that's where I do a lot of my riding. This could possibly be some of the reason for the wide variations in tire mileage being reported. In any case riding on bald or nearly bald tires is a bad idea, especially on wet pavement.

I put the 215/60R15 Michelin HydroEdge on my rear (2010 RT) & have about 16k on it now. Looks to have enough tread to get me twice that much again (or more) before I'll need to replace it. The HydroEdge is discontinued & replaced by the Michelin Defender, which I have on the fronts. This size also corrected my speedometer to be no more than 1 MPH from my GPS, and half the time they show the same speed.

I agree about the tar & chip roads wearing tires much quicker than hot mix asphalt or concrete surfaces. Texas has been using tar & chip on pretty much everything except interstates for some time now. The rear tire on our Spyders rides in the center of the lane where there is very little wear to the tar & chip surface from car tires and it's a very abrasive surface. I'm running a Kumho on the rear of my 2010 RT and the mileage is much improved over the OEM Kenda but still nothing to brag about.

Joe, how does the Kumho compare to the kenda? meet you at Pitbull just before spyderfest. just got my 3000 service today, at 3400 miles. how did you get yours done with no oil filters anywhere?
I just got 2 filters and will carry a spare with me from now on. Put amsoil 10-40 oil in the Limited and it sure seems to run smoother, and shifts nicer. thanks for the info.
