2014 reflectors on front fenders

Hi; just wondering how hard it is to take off or get in behind the reflectors on the front fenders of the 2014 RTS. I know a few of the sponsors sell led lighted reflectors but I got a couple white led strips off my 2011 RTS that I thought I could put in behind the reflectors and wire them to the light on the front of the fender. Just hoping to save a few bucks. Thanks All.

You need to take the wheels off then it is easy. Remove 2 - #25 torx button head cap screws and 3 - 8 mil screws. Good luck though I don't see how your project is going to work though.

Here is s picture of the reflectors. I don't think you can open them without breaking them.

It can be done with a little work and patience. On our RTS I removed the upper amber side markers and took a dremel to the back so I could put the light strip in then wired them to the front marker light. On our F3 I did both the upper amber strip and the rear red reflector but instead of just attaching them to the front marker light I bought the flasher unit and tied them to the turn signals. Now they act as running lights and turn signals. The white leds will be fine behind the amber markers but you really want to use red leds in the red reflectors. The white will make the markers appear to be more pink than red. Here is a picture of the amber marker but I have been a slacker and don't have any for the F3. Not the easiest job but it is doable. If I didn't enjoy tinkering so much I would have bought the lights from Reggie at Tricled and if my home made should become a problem hat's where the replacement will probably come from.

Those reflectors are held in place by a couple of those "Push-on tin grommets", that lock around a plastic pin that extends outward from the reflector body.

I managed to break a couple of them, when I was adding my TricLED lights to the fenders... :opps:

You don't have to remove the wheel to get the fender off. I removed the four bolts and jimmied the fender forward and it comes off. I used a small tool with an L shaped awl and it popped the metal washer holders off. I then used a Dremel with a cutting blade to cut down into the plastic and removed as much of the plastic except for where the posts are. Then I hot glued the LED strips in place and covered the whole back of it with more hot glue. I had to take the strips and cut them into three LED sections and then solder them together. I got power from the front marker light. The picture below shows the LED strip soldered together in the curve so they'll fit inside the amber reflector. Superbrightleds.com is where I got the LED's.

Great job. Just wondering how they look in the daytime, and is there any reflective material on the backing that you removed?

LED'S

The ones I've removed don't have any reflective backing.......they achieve their own reflectivity because one side is cut into PRISM shapes on the surface.....The reflectors I removed , I first tried dental floss but it wasn't strong enough......then I used some MIG welding wire and then it was like slicing cheese........Mike

The easiest way

......I took mine into Elk Grove Power Sports and thenwent and had lunch and they were done. The hardest part was deciding what to have for lunch!:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

It's just black plastic behind the colored reflective plastic. You can see the lights in the day time as well as the reflective features.

Below is a pic of the fender with the lights off.
