• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2013 vs 2014

Hello everyone, this is my first thread to this site. I am thinking of purchasing a Spyder RT limited. Can't make up my mind to do it now or wait for the new models come out. Also in the 2013 model, what things should I be aware of in this year. Thank you

The 2014 info will be out in september. If the only change they make is in the colors, I would save the $$$ and get a 2013. Issues on the 2013, there are plenty of threads and info from owners, look around, you will find the good , the bad, and the ugly. Good luck on your decision.

:welcome: to our little corner of the :spyder2: world.

RE: 2013 vs. 2014. I would wait to see what is being offered for 2014--just in case. The time is not that far off.

As others have pointed out--there are a lot of things written about the 2013's. The good, the bad, and the ugly. The biggest problem seems to be heat issues. There are some good deals out there all the way back to 2012--so it depends on what you want to spend, and what innovations you want.

I am guessing even better deals on 2013's before they are all gone.

IMHO, I am very happy with my 2012. I do ride an RS-S and not an RT, though. They just did the release of the first ST model year, so I would not expect any "big changes" to the line-up. I also believe that the dealership you buy from is more important than the model year you buy. Again, these are only opinions and I'm..............

Just sayin'............

:welcome: to the party!!:yes::ohyea::yes::ohyea::yes:

If you can wait; it might be fun to se what they do new for the 2014 models... It's getting close-enough now that a couple of extra weeks shouldn't be an issue... ;)

IMO lets see 2012 saves money what hot foot, 2013 wow how much more just burnt my right foot ect 2014 Wow they uped the price that much for What? oh ya it was the new colors he he.:roflblack:

New or Pre-Owned?

In all honesty, you might might want to look at the Spyders that are for sale right now on the 4 Sale by Owner forum on this site. If you want to get the biggest "bang for the buck" then check out the Spyder RT Limited's for sale out there. Of course, if you have your heart set on purchasing a brand new Spyder (and aren't worried about paying the retail premium), then you should definitely go for it. With the 2014's being so close to coming out, I'd probably wait and see if they fixed any of the issues the 2013 owners have been reporting.

Regardless of your decision, I'm sure hoping that you'll have as much fun with it as I'm having (I just picked mine up at the beginning of the summer).

All the best...

I would wait for the 2014. Then if you decide you want a 2013 I would think that they price would be even lower than it is now.

What to do..!!

If you have the time (I mean you can wait) then do so. All the offers they have now they will have again after the 2014's come out. If there are big changes and sales are good they may have better deals not only from brp but dealers as well. Time will tell...hang in there, I couldn't..:roflblack:

Patience is a Virtue...and Could Save You $$$

I purchased my 2012 RT Limited in February after the 2013's were already in the showrooms and saved $6,000 from the sticker price. The longer you wait after the 2014's are out, the better the deal you will likely get on a 2013 model. The biggest problem you may have is locating the model and color you want. I was looking for the white Limited and ended up with Lava Bronze. I figured color was not a deal breaker when compared to the discount I was able to get on the Lava Bronze model. Also, I found better deals on the Limited model than on the SE model at every dealer I checked. I suspect that was simply a matter of supply and demand. In any event, keep your eyes open. If you find a great deal at a dealer some distance away from you, see if your local dealer will match or beat the price. That's what I did and had no problem negotiating the deal. I wanted to get the extended warranty thrown into the deal for free but had to accept a discount on it instead. Finally, Cycletrader.com is a great source for checking availability and pricing. I used their website to narrow my search. :D

There are still some new 2012's available.
I'd try for one of those.

BRP has a very good track record of fixing problems and a not so good record of trouble free new models.
There are rumors of some big changes in 2014 and I an certain of two things:
The problems will be fixed and there will be problems.

A classic:roflblack:

You can be sure that in the next 8-12 months, a newer and better product will be out (regardless of whether it's a car, bike, Spyder, etc) and that there will be incentives & discounts on existing stock.

You can wait as long as you want/can, but that will never change. Pull the trigger when you're ready to have some fun.

Those who have spent 2-3K more have had the spring and summer to ride and that accounts for something.

In this case, depending on the discount I had access to, I'd be more inclined to wait for a 2014, as there will still be depreciation on last year's model and it will still be last year's model.
