2013 Trailer hitch and wire harness

I just installed a new hitch on my 2012 RTL. The hitch/harness is the new 2013 version. The harness has been changed again, I think for the better. The big round plug under the left saddle bag has been replaced. The new plug is a square 4 pin. The control box to convert from a 5 wire to a 4 wire system, is included with the hitch/harness has all the wires clearly marked, which helps if you need to use a 5 wire setup. The best thing, I did not have to buy the special cable to switch from the round plug to a 6 pin plug, at a cost of $120+.

I just made a "jumper" from square 4 to flat 4. I wasn't difficult once I got into it and with some good info from site here. Had to buy a set each of square and flat but was less than $10 at NAPA and maybe cheaper at Wally World. Good Luck.

If I am reading this right your trailer is a 5 wire system. Which means that your trailer brake light and turn signal are separate bulbs. Also if I am reading this right your Spyder has the 4 wire harness.

If the above is correct this is how I wired my 5 wire trailer to work with a 4 wire Spyder and a 5 wire Goldwing.

I hooked up the brake light wire (the red one) to small red wire at the control module under the seat.

With this setup when you hit the brakes the left and right turn signals will come on also as your brake light. More light the better.

I found the 4 wire square plug from NAPA auto parts, part number 755-1570

For some reason I can not attach a picture. PM me your email address and I will send you a picture of where I tied into the wire harness.

Not sure that's legal.

In Michigan you can have Amber brake light I don't know about other state. When I hit the brakes I the red and amber light come on. How ever I do have red cover for the turn signals that I take with me if I have a problem with other states DOT.

I want to keep my amber lights as turn only on both the bike and the trailer. That is why I need the five wire on both, but BRP does not think that way (just DUM)
