There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 2013 ST Limited - Headlight replacements

Hello everyone. This is my first post. I have researched the web, and this forum extensively, but have not found any conclusive answers, so I figured I would start a post, and see if anyone has any definitive answers for me.

I am looking to put new headlight and fog bulbs into my spyder. The lights are not bright enough for my liking, and I want to put in some 4k PIAA bulbs.

But after contacting Can Am, my dealer, and researching for hours on the internet, I can not find any place where someone can specify what exact bulbs the 2013 ST Limited uses.

The research that I did said that the fogs are H8's, and the headlights are 9005's. But that came from different sources, and none specific to this model bike.

I daresay I have not had the desire to take the bike apart myself and pull the bulb to find out what kind it is. I'm a great computer programmer, not a good mechanic :)

Since you all seem very knowledgeable, I figured I would give this a shot.

Many thanks for any help you can provide.

9005 bulb for headlights is obviously wrong. It is a single filament bulb and the ST takes a duel.

For the headlights all you have to do is look into the headlights and you'll notice it says H4 on the metal bulb surround. I honestly wouldn't waste a single dollar on the piaa bulbs. You aren't going to actually improve the light output. All it'll do is make the light a pretty color. I have tried the high output replacement halogen bulbs and I installed 1 bulb and left the other side stock and it was absolutely indistinguishable which was stock and which was the piaa extreme. They claim some bs about double the light output with the same wattage draw. The only way you'll improve the light output is with HID lights. Trust me:thumbup:

You can see by my truck, why I want more lights :) I run dual rigid industries light bars on the truck, and have grown quite accustomed to the rediculous light output by these things.

The addition of the fogs to the bike helped a lot, as it didnt come with the fogs. I'm just trying to find the best (and easiest) way to add more light. Of course in all my research I came across TricLed, which gave me a lot of ideas, as I've wanted to do underbody lights and body strip lighting too...

Arctic, thanks for the tip on the metal surround. Just as you said, its H4. So I appreciate that tip :) As far as light output, I wont go as far as disagreeing with you, but even on my truck, I put PIAA extreme bulbs as replacements for my headlights and fog lights, and it definitely made a difference. True, the light output isnt dramatically different, but I am a stickler for light color, and for farkle's sake, i definitely like the color of the 4k bulbs.

Thanks for that tip.

That is why I'm telling you to do nothing short of HID lights if you are seeking more light output. Otherwise you'll have $60 and some time wrapped into having pretty colored lights. For around $200 you'll be amazed at the output of HID:2thumbs:

$60? lol. try ~140 for head+fogs :) The only reason I thought to do this now, was because i've got that recall fix from september, the master cylinder manifold inlet, being done in 2 weeks, so since they had to take half the bike apart for that, might as well have them swap out all the bulbs... I throw money around like a fool anyways, so I'm going to try it. Rest assured, if you're right, I will come back and tell you so :) I know the HIDs would be best, but I'll just try this for now.

So I now know the headlights are H4's... Can anyone confirm that the fogs are H8's ? The dealer just picked up the bike and I was stupid and forgot to look at that one...

If you think of it, Maybe snap a few photos of what the back side of the headlight assembly looks like and how the bulbs are held in. Hopefully it's not that same ****ty clip that they used on the RS spyders:pray:

Little checking..!!

around this site and you will find that the HID's is gonna give you the most bang for the buck. There are many brighter light bulbs but the ones it comes with are about the same. I don't have the HID but added extra lights which work well for me...20121228_091133.jpg Check with our sponsors on the home page for lighting...

yeah, i have a feeling i will buy pretty much every light set from tricled. definitely want a full set of underbodies as well as strip lighting. and more than likely i will switch up to hid's eventually. gonna try out the piaa 4k bulbs since its the easiest path of least resistance, and if i'm not happy, well, i love to change stuff up so...
