2013 Spyder RTS and Kewl Metal Performance Air Filter Kit

This question is for anyone who has installed the Air Filter Kit on a 2013 Spyder RT. After wrestling the stock airbox out, I installed the Kewl metal kit. The instructions say to remove the crankcase ventilation hose from the left side of the motor and a new (longer) hose is supplied to connect the new air filter kit to the crankcase ventilation nipple. However, the 90 degree elbow this hose connects to is a smaller size than the crankcase ventilation nipple. As a result, it fits on the kit, but not on the nipple. I called Kewl Metal, who was not aware of a difference in the size on the 2013. It appears I will need to locate a larger elbow and obtain a piece of hose to connect the two. Has anyone else run into this, and if so, what was your solution?

When I did the Kewl kit install on my 2012 RT, the hose did not match up either, too big... But, I sure would get some new hose or adapters, etc to fix it instead of removing that elbow... mine was solidly locked into the engine block. This is just a vent, not a pressurized hose.
What do you think Doc ?

I'm not proposing to remove the elbow from the engine block. At the suggestion of Kewl Metal, I am proposing to replace the air filter kit elbow (brass) with one of the same gauge as the one in the engine block, and use the same size hose as was on the original airbox. What I was asking is whether anyone has a different and easier solution.

Use a smaller diameter hose... and throw away the hose they included. but, include an in-line fuel filter in the hose to serve as a "catch" for any oil being pushed up the vent hose....

I guess I did not make myself clear. The hose and fitting provided by Kewl Metal is smaller than the crankcase ventilation hose on the Spyder. In fact it is too small to fit over the crankcase vent elbow. The only way to fix it appears to be as I stated, go to a larger elbow on the Kewl Metal and keep the same size hose that the motor originally had. Again, my question is whether anyone else with a 2013 RT has encountered the problem, and if so, what was their solution?

There are very few 2013s RTs out there as yet...and likely a whole lot less with the KewlMetal intake, if any. You are likely the pioneer in this effort. You'll likely have to figure out a solution yourself, then report on it here.

Apparently, I may be the first person with a 2013 RT to install the Kewl Metal Air Filter. It is completed and works great. I did have to obtain (from a hardware store) a new brass elbow (with threads on both ends) to screw into the Kewl Metal base. I then screwed a brass adaptor to increase the size of the tailpiece to fit the same size hose as was originally on the crankcase vent. I also had to get a 12" piece of gas line hose from the auto parts store, again the same size hose as was originally on the crankcase vent. After hooking it up the Spyder runs beautifully and definitely runs cooler. :yes:For anyone ordering one from Kewl Metal for a 2013 RT, be sure to ask if they have added the additional parts for the 2013. Otherwise a trip to the store will be in order.
