2013 RT Sway Bars....

Waiting list, price and install options up at Maggie Valley or Lamonsters, please.

Having just returned from out of country and still catching up I don't have all my costs nailed down yet. I even had my dad pick up the bars and deliver them to the powder coaters to keep the ball rolling! (Thanks dad!).

Price will be in the ball park of the current RT bars. The 2013 bars are longer with a 90 degree bend. Not sure yet what that will do to price but it shouldn't be much. The new bushings are much more expensive (and much better too) than the pre 2013's. But on the other hand the 2013 bars don't need collars. It won't be a wash but I'm hoping it won't be a big difference either.

I'll be nailing down price on Monday after I settle up with my supplier.

I still have to put together install instructions. That is a bigger job than it appears when all you end up with is a few sheets of paper in your box. The first bars may go out with less than perfect instructions, depending on my work load and how anxious you are to get one.

Contact Harvey Clark (SpyderPops) for details about how to get one and have it installed at the Owner's Event / Lamont's BBQ.

Sorry for the less than stellar debut for the 2013 RT Sway Bars but Spyderfest and the Owner's Event with a trip to Kathmandu sandwiched in-between has kept me very busy. The hardest part may be getting over this jet lag. Not complaining, mind you. I'm as fortunate as a person can possibly be. Just don't want anyone thinking I'm laying around sipping Mint Juleps under a shade tree out here! :ohyea:

... went to the Powder Coater's today.... :ohyea:

BajaRon, as a new rider of the 2013 Spyder RT Limited, I am curious about the sway bars. I thought BRP designed, engineered, and installs a sway bar on the 2013 RT Limited....am I wrong? What are the defects of such a vital OEM piece of equipment, that we need to install an aftermarket sway bar. Please help me understand...thank you.

 You couldn't let us pre-'13 owners continue to gloast; could you?
:congrats: to the 2013 owners who add one; we told you so! :D

Yes, BRP has engineered and installed a sway bar on the 2013's just as they have for all Spyder years and models.

The OEM sway bar is NOT defective. If you are satisfied with the way it works then there is no need to replace it. But to really know if you are actually satisfied you might want to ride a similar Spyder with my bar installed.

I have gotten dozens of emails that basically go like this (Pre-2013 Spyders owners, of course); 'I was very happy with the way my Spyder handled and I originally had no intention of purchasing one of your sway bars. But with all the rave reviews I keep reading I have decided, against my better judgement, to order one. I hope I am not making a big mistake. I can't see how your bar could make that much difference. Please invoice me.'

Feeling for their confliction I wish them well and ship them a bar. Next thing I know they are emailing me and posting here on Spyderlovers about how much they love their 'New' Spyder and the cycle starts all over again.

All I can say is, you may not know what you're missing until you try it. If you don't like it, send it back for a full refund. I've not received one back yet but you may be the 1st! (I'll send the required documentation to Guinniss if that happens!)

He speaks the truth. I added the Elkas and sure didn't think I needed anything else. I was wrong. You will not regret getting one.

I'm a new rider/owner of 12 RT-S SE5. Only rode it 245 miles mostly around town (25 HWY). My question is what's up with the sway bars?? There is alot of conservation about sway bars, please help me to understand. Thanks

They improve handling tremendously, but I would recommend holding off a bit till you get a real good feel for your RT and it becomes somewhat second nature. The reason why I say this is that as a new rider you tend to be much more nervous, twitchy and generally won't ride to the level you will in a couple of months. Once you feel comfortable with the Spyder and have mastered your riding techniques, figured out what tire pressure, suspension settings, etc work best, then pull the trigger on getting Ron's insanely awesome anti sway bar.

You certainly could get it now, but its best to be blown away by it later, than somewhat impressed now. Just my 2c. :)

I must say that I agree. There are many things to learn about your new Spyder. And it is more about the adventure than it is about the destination. Find out what you like and what you don't like before you change anything. People have garages full of farkels that just didn't work out because the owner got stars in their eyes.

Though I'm sure you'll be happy with the bar whenever you decide to get it, as the poster so accurately stated, you may not appreciate it nearly as much if you get it right away.

Hey! Wait a minute! I'm selling these things! What is the matter with me!? I should be recommending that you get 2 or 3 right away for yourself and your friends! It will make the butter on your toast melt faster and taste better. Your dishes will come cleaner and the bar will help you get a promotion at work! (How am I doing?)

I really need to take a sales seminar of something...

I think you just need to sit back and let these things sell themselves.

Hey I'm one of those folks who ordered a sway bar from Ron who does not really think he needs it. I have not yet installed it and will have to wait until after the the owners event due to time constraints. So why did I order it? Right now I am on my second Spyder ('09 RS sold, now '12 RT) and have been riding them for almost four years. I weight 185# and have my factory shocks set at #5 setting and get a stiff ride with some lateral sway in turns. This is fine for me as I am used to it and I ride pretty aggressively. I am looking for a ride where I can reduce the shock preload to 3-4 to reduce the harshness and keep the same amount of lateral sway. This is a moderate expectation that I am convinced the Baja Ron sway bar will provide as a minimum from speaking with folks who have it installed. My hopes are that it will improve the lateral sway moment without the harshness that I am experiencing now. It is a very inexpensive investment for a potential improvement in ride quality. By the way. I do not work for nor have I ever met Ron, though I have E Mailed him.

Your going to be very mad at yourself for waiting so long to install it... it only takes an hour.

Well if you like the over steer and the body sway coming out of corners keep the factory sway bar. My wife would not ride in the back seat of my 2012 RT with the factory sway bar, she felt like she was going to get launched off the back at every corner. Ron made it possible for my wife to like riding the Spyder! Thanks a bunch Ron!

Rider buddy of mine installed it on his RS, and mine is OE. I rode his and admit its stiffer in corners and feels "heavier" when steering... Not in a negative way. It sorta reminded me of when I had dual steering stabilizers on my jeep. Took some of the Wiley Coyote out of it.

I am satisfied/able to tolerate the lean and ride characteristics in corners with my OE swaybar, and how it telegraphs force straight while I turn. I know its a trike. A stiffer sway might increase the force exerted on the rider, but minimize wandering and steering play over bumps.
It would probably be worth the risk to try if your looking to improve some of these issues, and would be further enhanced with some nice shocks.

It is nice to have options :)

Install the bar! It will do what you want it to do. That was my purpose in installing it, and I am pleased with the results. There is an additional side benefit of less reaction to the buffeting from semis and gusty winds. There is one drawback...it makes you a lazier rider, since you don't have to work as hard in the corners.

There's always time for nap time!

You just might need to come up with a new excuse for them; that's all!
