• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Just got my 600 mile service done last month.
Happy to report that I have had none of the typical issues that I read about, except the heat problem.
Being new to Spyder (got mine in November), can somebody tell me why poeple install sway bars and bump skids?
Thanks.

:welcome: :congrats: on your great taste in Bikes! :2thumbs:
The Spyders are set up from the factory for a very soft and "cushy" ride... ;)
If you want to make handling a bit higher priority; BajaRon has the perfect Anti-SwayBar for your needs! It'll reduce the bike's tendcecy to lean in the curves, and it'll even help with straightline stability in crosswinds.
The Bumpskid... these babies sit low... They are a very simple and worthwhile addition, that'll help protect the front end's bodywork!

Welcome..!! Welcome..!!

You have found the best of two worlds. Roadsters and the folks that talk and share about them...as to your questions, sway bar greatly improves the handling. This is if you are not happy with the wayyour ryde behaves but really a good mod no matter what. The bumpskid is another great mod. It not only gives you full coverage of the front under section it also helps direct air flow. The stock skid plate is smaller and much thinner. These are both great mods for when you get into making changes. Not visible but most effective...

That IS the problem

The heat problem IS the major issue with the 2013 models. Did you have the latest update done to your Spyder? Claim is to help some of the over heating issues. As a side note: most riders would recommend setting the front shocks to position 4 or 5.

Welcome to the best all things Spyder site. Enjoy your new ride.

Hello IndianSpyder, Welcome to the forums.

I have neither on my bike at this point. I did order the swaybar, but haven't installed it yet. I am going to order the bump skids, for the extra protection and air flow assistance. Both are great recommendations from the experienced riders. I, as you, have had no significant problems with my 2013. Did get my first code the other day on a brake failure, but it was due to brake fluid level being low. I did have a change out of shocks on my unit after my first service, which greatly increased the handling. The upgrade was a BRP shock for the 2013 with stronger springs. By the way the 2013's don't have adjustable shocks, like the earlier versions. I will eventually put the sway bar on mine, but for now I'm happy with the way it handles. Many suggest also having the laser alignment done as well. As for the heat issues, well mine still is a little warm even after the recall fix, but I'm sure your's should be updated by purchasing in November. I purchased mine in May.

Happy Riding

if you have ever hit a parking lot barrier or high curb or a dead critter in the road, you will wish that you had a Bump Skid to protect the front end of your Spyder from damage. they don't call the Bump Skid a possum pusher or critter splitter for nothing :roflblack::roflblack:

:welcome: and :congrats: on your new ryde. Glad to hear that you are happy with it. I can't speak to the farkles because I have not installed them on my :spyder2:'s. Some of our critters are a bit bigger here and I don't see the bump skid helping to much with a grizzly bear or a moose encounter. nojoke

GET THE BUMPSKID!! You have got plenty of time to think about the sway bar, depending on how you ride. In the mean time, the skid will save the front of your bike from road debris, curb hits, road dips or humps,…! You won't be sorry. Enjoy your ride and welcome to the forum!

If you've ever had to pull off a shoulder in Arkansas, (tongue in cheek for Joe), you will usually find about a 4 to 5 inch drop in the asphalt to grassy area. The bumpskid sho would have been helpful to me at that time. (coming home from 2013 Spyderfest)

As for the swaybar I will start out with a disclaimer. I don't know that I have ever ridden a spyder (every year save the 2014) that had the swaybar installed. When I bought my 2013 RT-S, I felt the ride was so far superior to the 2010-2012 that I didn't need either the swaybar or Elka shocks. With that said I also didn't think that my ride could be improved by an alignment, but the Outlaw Laser Alignment showed me different on that issue.

Bottom line is that as far as handling I personally think the "13" handles excellently without the BajaRon Swaybar (remember disclaimer) or Elka Shocks that greatly improved the ride of the 2010 - 2012's.

Chris, I am certain you will be in for a very pleasant surprise when you get around to riding any Spyder thru some twisties with an upgraded sway bar!
