• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 2013 RT Interim Recall Letter

Thanks for posting.

So now BRP has officially told me it is unsafe to ride my Spyder to work on days when the ambient temperature is above 85 deg F.

Great. Since this will effectively put our Spyders out of commission by Mid March, are they going to provide me a loaner for the time until they can repair my bike? I bet the bank still wants to be paid for the bike during that time.

What should you do? Inform involved vehicle owners that they can keep using their vehicle while taking the following precautions in hot riding conditions (ambient temperature of approximately 30 C/85 F and more):  Avoid idling or slow traffic riding for a long period of time.  Avoid parking in an enclosed area immediately after your ride, let your vehicle cool down first.  Avoid prolonged direct contact with body panels; wear appropriate riding gear as stated in the Operator’s Guide.

Exactly. That says I cannot ride the bike to work on a day when the ambient temp will be 85 or higher. Idling and slow traffic are far beyond my control and just a part of riding in Houston.

So would you prefer that they hadn't told you anything?

No, I would have preferred they fixed this 2 years ago rather than telling me there was nothing wrong with the bike. We already KNOW there is a problem. We have been telling THEM for nearly 2 years.

I am glad its moving forward rather than back, but the letter the basically just says we are still working on it and wait a few more months before we have an answer. The only thing this announcement does is publicly admit for the first time that there is a problem.

And we still don't have any reason to believe THIS fix will work any better than the last few band aids. We will see when they bother to tell us what is planned and they get the parts made.

It should have been done already. They just keep dragging it out. Heck they had plenty of time to design a whole new bike from the ground up while this has been a problem. But instead of fixing it, they delayed, denied and ignored. They had our money, and proceeded to do what they could to get more rather than deliver what was already paid for.

As I see it..!!

they are working on it and will have a fix, but do appreciate the fact they are keeping us up to date with the goings on...

What's going to be done?

Thanks for posting this!

Any idea of what is going to be done....change in panel design?...remove the cat :-) or......

oh well...

After a couple trips to the dealer (1 hr. each way) with no resolution... We traded in the wife's 2013 STS-SM5 last year because the heat from riding it in the april/may of Oklahoma was unbearable. We took a multi-thousand dollar hit on the trade-in. At the time we did it, the only real option was a swap out of all the front body panels to get the air flow of the 2014's. My rough calculations for the cost of the panel swap (not covered under warranty) and adding saddle bags and rear tour pack was about $4000. So, for almost $8000 difference in the bottom line, we got rid of her STS with less that 500 miles on it for a new 2014 RTS SM6.

She is definately happier with the 1330 vs the 998, the SM6 vs SM5, and the extra storage space.

If I only knew then, what I know now....

Thank you for posting the dealer version of the letter. It gives a better perspective on the subject at hand.

I do suggest giving BRP a chance to get it right--even at this late date in time.

Many of you are very patient and have held on much longer than I would have, given the same situation.

It does sound like putting a 998 in a carriage that was made for a 1330 might be the root of the problem with the heat issues on the RT models. That was a technicality that I was not aware of until recently. I am guessing that a head or two rolled over that one. :yikes:

We have made an attempt to contact the BRP rep's regarding this subject. We have had no response on what is going to be done about this issue as of yet. As soon as we know, we will be sure and post it for everyone.

They have told us that they are unable to disclose all of the information regarding the solution of this issue... They did not even give us a date of when this information will become available. Once we learn more, we will keep everyone posted.
