• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 2012 RTSE5 stalling at take off. FUN in heavy traffic!

Bike has 13,532 miles and it recently started this craziness. The "check engine" will flash at random during take off/first gear only (no flash pattern, just random flicker). Oil level is good. Fuel tank is not overfilled. Then it started cutting off at random during take off. Now it started stalling at take off a lot and sometimes while coasting with the throttle close. Will restart instantly while still moving. Have to learn how to pull any fault codes (nothing strange has ever shown up on the screen) that are in the bikes storage and start pulling panels and check out the vacuum hoses for any leaks. Also think I read something about a RPM or crank position sensor coming loose that causes bad ride results. It also started to idle a bit rougher that normal. If it was a car I would think mass air flow sensor. Gonna read thru the owners manual really well before tackling it, also have the shop manual. Any leads on possible causes highly appreciated! Keep y'all posted on my success.

As far as vacuum hoses, check the 2 small hoses on the left side of the engine going from the MAP sensors to the throttle bodies. These fail a lot.

Got the panels off but the bugs are coming out so I hung it up for the day. Found 1 of 2? of the MAPS hoses, and they "look" good. Manual states the correct length so I may replace it/them anyways to play it safe. Has anyone made a home version of the BUBS hook-up yet so you can check everything yourself, or does it require to much to make a home version feasible?

The auto stores have some better quality hose replacements, remember to keep the hose lengths the same. There have been several posts giving part numbers. Although the 2012's are not known for throttle body issues, you may have a bad one. This would require a trip to the dealer and a hook-up to the "BUDS" for verification.

Just my thoughts and good luck

Stalling Issues

Another thing to check would be the purge valve. I was having stalling issues similar to what you describe. My dealer replaced the purge valve and it has been running great ever since!

Pull your codes by pushing mode, set and turn signal buttons straight in, at the same time. Then you can check the results on the Spyder codes app.
Good luck.

The 2010s started out with the Thtottle body troubles... passed them off to the 2011s, and by 2012; they pretty much were becoming a non-issue.
If you try and pull codes; do it while the bike is acting-up. You only get to see active coeds.
But all of them DO get stored, for retrieval by BUDS!

I have the same spyder. I had the same problem. 11500 miles. last year I replaced the hoses. the hard to find hose is behind the wires opposite of the first hose.it looked good but take it off and bend it to see the cracks. 20 miles when new the throttle craped out and had to replace it.

FINALLY got the hoses found and removed. Rear hose looked good, front one was cracking. What size have you all found for the MAP hoses? NAPA had 1/8th inch fuel line hose but it does not fit very tight. O'Riely's had Prime Line clear (part#7-081532) but its to small of a diameter. Have fuel hose from work and it was also to large inside diameter. We have a hose specialist in our area. What exactly am I asking for again? Thanks again for any and all help!

Finless has written a complete documenation on the subject of MAP sensor hose failure and replacement.

Thanks for the link. I did not find that info with the search engine option, think it has more to do with my computer skills than with the site. I ordered the hoses Frank showed from NAPA, strange that the hoses were not in stock. Will have the wifes Spyder back up and running this Wed. Thanks again for the help!

[h=2]Below is what I was referring to. This was posted by Lamont in another thread sometime ago.

PROBLEM
Problem A
In some conditions, the throttle body actuator could get damaged, which could lead to fault codes or limp home mode when trying to start the engine.
IMPORTANT: For 2011 models, carry out this campaign even if campaign 2011-0008 was already performed on the vehicle.

Problem B
One some 2011 vehicles, one of the middle side panels rubber grommets might fall off after multiple removal and installation of the panel.

SOLUTION
Problem A
Update ECM with revised software.

Just a little FYI on the ECM update.

The throttle body actuator protection portion of the bulletin is very important as updating the ECM software will greatly increase throttle body reliability. This bulletin applies to all 2011 and 2012 RT models. It does not apply to 2010 RT models. Under certain conditions, the ETA (electronic throttle actuator) could experience an over-current period which would overheat the electric motor and cause it to fail. This type of failure would result in the engine going into limp home mode at start up and trip any of these codes. P1614, P1610, P1611 or P1615. When this happens it is necessary to replace the entire throttle body. With this new software in place, the ETA cannot receive excessive current. Operation of the vehicle will not change in any way. There will still be the quiet humming as the throttle blades are held closed for 40 minutes after the engine is shut off. It will start and run exactly as it did previously.

All done and sealed back up! Runs feakin' GREAT! I'm basking in the success of doing it myself with some donuts. Its the little things in life. Anyways, now I have to find out what Service Bulletin(s) have and have not been done. Im the 2nd owner and the dealership did register it with BRP BUT that appears to not guarantee getting notified of anything. Back to enjoying the Spyder again, the wife will be so happy to ride it now all fixed and reliable!
